Automation Engineer (C#) - Laser Manufacturing

Location: Oxford, MA (On-site)


Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to develop in-house software solutions that automate test and assembly stations for packaged semiconductor lasers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of software development, robotics, and laser manufacturing, contributing to the design and maintenance of advanced automation equipment dealing with laser diodes, micro-optics, and precision mechatronics.


As part of our engineering team, you will play a key role in enhancing production efficiency, troubleshooting automation systems, and implementing cutting-edge automation technologies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain C#-based software solutions for automation of laser test and assembly stations.
  • Design, integrate, and optimize robotic motion systems, vision recognition systems, and opto-electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Support engineers in troubleshooting and improving automated test procedures and manufacturing stations.
  • Analyze performance data and implement process improvements to optimize manufacturing efficiency and yield.
  • Qualify manufacturing processes through statistical analysis, repeatability studies, and performance validation.
  • Ensure seamless communication between automation software and hardware, including motors, sensors, and lab equipment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production engineers, R&D teams, and quality control to drive automation advancements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in C#, .NET framework, and Visual Studio IDE.
  • Experience with automation, robotics, motion control, and data acquisition.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation concepts, including process design, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of electrical lab equipment, test instrumentation, and sensor integration.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor laser packaging and testing.
  • Knowledge of SQL, data processing, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Hands-on experience with motor control, PLCs, and machine vision systems.
  • Exposure to scientific instruments and remote control of lab equipment.

Pay Range:


The pay range on this posting applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location posted, the applicable range could differ. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
