Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee and/or Operator

Trainee Responsibilities Include:

• Learn plant operations by observing and assisting experienced staff
• Operate and adjust pumps, valves, motors, screens, and other mechanical systems
• Collect water samples and assist with lab tests
• Enter operational data into computer systems
• Perform facility cleaning and maintenance
• Drive and operate heavy equipment when needed

Operator Responsibilities Include:

• Operate and maintain treatment plant equipment including pumps, compressors, filters, and digesters
• Monitor, test, and adjust chemical processes
• Maintain records and logs, supervise trainees
• Collect and analyze wastewater samples
• Perform minor repairs and custodial work around the facility
• Oversee daily functions to ensure compliance and smooth operations

Minimum Qualifications:

Trainee:

• High school diploma or NYS high school equivalency

Operator:

• High school diploma or NYS equivalency AND
• Possession of a Grade 3-A Certificate issued under NYS DEC regulations

Both Positions Require:

• A valid NYS Driver’s License
• A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as required for duties

Pay Rate:

• $29.14/hour — Trainee
• $33.34/hour — Operator
