Hours: 2: 30 PM - 11: 00 PM other hours may be required based on the building needs and scheduled events that occur outside of the normal work schedule
SUMMARY
Perform routine building cleaning duties in school buildings and related facilities. Cleaners are expected to perform a wide variety of routine and non-routine cleaning tasks as required throughout the year to assure our buildings are clean, safe and comfortable for our students, staff, and the community in general. They also perform a variety of non-cleaning tasks such as opening the school, checking for vandalism, identifying safety and maintenance needs, responding to teachers’ and principals’ requests, setting up for special activities and events, attend to special events and building use activities, accept deliveries, perform stocking and delivery of supplies, support the activities of the food service staff, and tend to the building’s exterior and interior flags. Performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to, the following:
Learn & perform all aspects of cleaning. Cleaning activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Dust chairs, tables, desks and other furniture, etc.;
Wash windows, walls, woodwork, water closets, sinks, tubs and toilet bowls;
Maintain the buildings floors through sweeping, mopping, and washing floors using manual or automated methods; each Cleaner will be required to participate in our floor care program that will involve stripping, waxing, sealing, buffing, etc. for the various floors and flooring materials found throughout the district;
Cleans and polishes furniture;
Empty trash cans and recyclables into disposal areas;
Other tasks that fall within the scope of the job;
Develops a working knowledge of all of the cleaning chemicals and cleaning protocols used within the District;
Operates a variety of institutional and commercial cleaning devices and equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, etc.;
Follows written or oral instructions and comply with District procedures, policies, and safety guidelines;
Understands when and how to use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to reduce exposure to, but not limited to, blood borne pathogens, heights, chemicals, vehicle safety, propane and other equipment;
Assists as needed with painting, furniture moving, disinfecting, power washing, and general grounds work (mowing, weeding, raking, pruning, edging, shoveling);
Monitors, prepares, and cleans up after building use activities; set up and/or tear down chairs, tables, risers, stages, scoreboards, etc.; secure the school/building after an event
Identifies potential safety or maintenance issues and communicates them to a supervisor;
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the work environment;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical demands including walking and standing, climbing, bending, kneeling to clean floors by hand, push and pull objects, lift and move objects (including, but not limited to, vacuums, buffers, furniture), repetitive bending and lifting, and repetitive arm movements.

Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read and write; thoroughness; cleanliness; good physical condition.
