Reporting to the SVP and General Counsel, provide strategic oversight for the development, controls, and mitigation strategies related to risk management as well as assist the General Counsel in protecting organization's legal interest and in handling legal issues and matters. Provide managerial, administrative, and legal support in achieving FHCSD goals and objectives.

Risk Management

  • Build positive relationships, inspire others to perform at a higher level, prepare career development plans, and retain an accountable workforce.
  • Coach and counsel staff and administer appropriate disciplinary action in a timely manner.
  • Provide/ensure staff receive all new hire and annual training on time.
  • Identify potential risks for patients through the risk assessment process in gathering data through ongoing discussions and meetings with Clinic Directors and clinic staff.
  • Participate in Clinical Outcomes Program and work toward meeting organizational targets for all established metrics.
  • Develop and build long-term plans for improving and maximizing safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Provide directives related to developing, reviewing, and conducting analyses related to strategies to maximize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Point of contact in the development of policies, procedures, and processes that reduce and/or mitigate FHCSD potential risk management exposures.
  • Analyze, aggregate, and report key risks, controls, and mitigation strategies.
  • Establish standard processes for data tracking, and relevant policy deadlines.
  • As subject matter expert, advise leadership and management on the mitigation of strategic, investment, operational and compliance/legal risks.
  • Evaluate information related to any aspect of healthcare services that may expose FHCSD to risks related to safety issues that impact financial factors.
  • Effectively conduct analyses in working to reduce facility risks in promoting patient safety.
  • Has responsibility for ad hoc issues that may arise related to risk management.

Associate General Counsel

  • Identify and analyze legal issues, drafts key documents, and presents clear recommendations to the executive leadership team.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and reviews policies, practices, and guidelines.
  • Assist and/or represents FHCSD in legal proceedings.
  • Provide counsel to senior leadership.
  • Develop corporate governance procedures.
  • Review and/or prepare contracts and other legal documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and passing of bar exam required.
  • MBA desired.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver's license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

  • Minimum 3 years (5 years preferred) of experience in litigation or business law required. In-house and law firm experience highly desired.
  • 3 years of related experience within a healthcare environment required.
  • Experience functioning in the role of a supervisor required.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques, including performance management and employee development.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to risk minimization, safety-related systems, and/or insurance provisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people and operational units.
  • Ability to apply regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to apply technical expertise, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.
  • Demonstrated excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits.

$140,000.00 - $200,000.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
