Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Cellular, Molecular Neurobiology Research for the Department of Biological Sciences within the School of Arts and Sciences.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Performs DNA extraction from tissue samples and PCR genotyping, with agarose gel electrophoresis and photo-documentation as the expected outcome.
- Generates primary research data, analysis, quantifications, and documentation in the format of a manuscript and figure preparation to slide presentations.
- Performs daily routine lab chores, such as making buffers, reagents, laboratory dishware washing and autoclaving.
- Assists other laboratory personnel such as graduate students, other undergraduate students and the PI/faculty in conducting laboratory experiments.
- Assists the PI/faculty in manuscript, figures, and slide preparation for submission for publication and/or presentations.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, relevant laboratory technician, and/or other technical work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Advanced knowledge in cellular, molecular neurobiology, with a focus in neurodevelopment in the mammalian nervous system.
- Sufficient knowledge in ImageJ/Fiji software for data analysis and quantifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of the Sholl Analysis method and statistical methods such as the Student's T test and ANOVA.

Equipment Utilized |
- Ability to operate a thermal cycler, gel electrophoresis apparatus, and autoclave machine.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Ability to properly transport small animal cages from the animal facility to the lab and vice versa.
- Ability to lift packages approximately 30 - 40 lbs. from the loading dock/stockroom to the lab.
