Position Description:

The position will assist Product Development Engineering, Manufacturing, other Wabash business units, and Wabash Customers with trailer and components prototyping, testing, and performance evaluations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:



  • Be competent at maintaining a clean and safe workplace environment.
  • Build prototypes of trailer components and assemblies by metal or other materials fabrication, utilizing various assembly methods.
  • Set up physical tests following standard test procedures. Conduct tests. Collect experimental data. Write test reports.
  • Design new tests, summarize your ideas in writing, design and build new gages, tools, testing instruments, jigs, fixtures, etc.
  • Fabricate test specimens utilizing welding, mechanical assembly, bonding, etc.
  • Work closely with Product Development Engineering in carrying out trailer repairs and modifications.
  • Order shop sensors, tools, lab equipment, and supplies.
  • Conduct Workplace Organization activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • New software (Data acquisition, machine control)

    • Environmental Chamber Operation & Programming
    • Ender 3 S1 Operation Small-scale 3D printing (preferred)
    • Ability to learn additional equipment as required by test


  • Fork Truck
  • Welding equipment (MIG, Plasma, Torch)
  • Hoist and crane operation
  • Waterjet
  • Hand tools
  • Power tools
  • Hydraulic equipment



Qualifications:



  • Basic industrial automation knowledge
  • Ability to understand and follow standard test procedures, ability to set up a physical test, conduct the test, collect experimental data.
  • Write technical documents.
  • Knowledge of gages, metrology, practical skills of measuring, ability to perform gage and tool calibrations.
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in operating electric-power tools and air-pressure power tools, welding technology, metal fabrication, adhesives and bonding technology, plastics, and composite materials
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in mechanical assembly, fixtures, jigging and equipment prototyping
  • Ability to operate heavy shop machinery e.g., a fork truck, hoist, crane, etc.
  • Basic trailer knowledge.
  • Basic math knowledge.
  • Blueprint reading knowledge.
  • MS Office
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Basic reading /writing/ & verbal skills


Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:



  • Ability to follow Standard Work Instructions (SWI's), Test Lab Procedures, and Test Standards
  • Lab electronics and electro-mechanic systems knowledge preferred
  • General understanding of sensor technology
  • Data reporting ability
  • Hydraulic power technology, Hydraulic power control knowledge and/or experience preferred


Education / Experience:



  • Strong People Skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of an organization.
  • Meticulous, self-motivated, time management execution.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites such as the noise level in the work environment can be very loud with elevated temperatures at times. All employees on the production floor must wear the necessary personal production equipment (PPE). Physical Demands:

As a Test Lab Technician, you are regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate tools or controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs full range of motion in their arms and hands in this position. All Technicians must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. Some Technicians also work in small spaces throughout their shift and frequently lift and/or carry objects up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination.
