Technologist, Product Development, Pet Research & Development Opportunity Technologists use their understanding of science or engineering to perform the basic and critical experimental work of applied research and/or development, including planning experiments, generating, and analyzing data, as relevant to the business need. Individuals plan and execute a broad range of technical tasks. Their work is typically "hands on," at the benchtop, in a lab, in a plant or pilot plant, at a critical site, on a computer or with consumers. Location: Orrville, OH Work Arrangements: Hybrid 60% or more in office presence as business need requiresand travel up to 30% In this role you will:
- Design products based on a business need, as defined by consumer insights, a product brief and learning plan, while under guidance of a manager
- Formulate products based on ingredient functionality, nutritional targets, consumer need, claim substantiation, operational feasibility, and financial targets
- Conduct experiments from rapid, iterative prototyping to development and scale-up (benchtop, pilot plant, plant)
- Review and interpret data, from process trials, measurements from chemical/physical analysis, feeding studies, storage studies, statistical analysis, providing conclusions and recommendations
- Partner with other disciplines and resources, both internal and external to R&D and JMS, sharing information, building upon an integration of ideas
- Compose new and update existing documents such as specs (ingredients, finished product), reports, project updates, data analyses, laboratory notebooks, etc.
- Share and present technical data internally and externally to R&D, both verbal and written
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in science, Technology, or Engineering
- Requires knowledge and expertise in own discipline/area
- Strong time management skills
- Effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in establishing and adhering to procedures
- Work with quality/safety in mind
Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:
- Previous experience with food and/or pet food product development
- Experience with food processes, e.g. extrusion, thermal processing, or baking
- Formulation experience
- Coursework on Nutrition
- Demonstrated ability to acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills
- Ability to work under moderate supervision within guidelines and processes
