We're looking for an Area Safety Specialist who's passionate about building relationships, supporting field teams, and making sure everyone goes home safely every day. As an Area Safety Specialist in our Iowa region, you'll work closely with local leaders and the Safety Manager to bring our safety standards to life. You'll help implement policies, lead by example in the field, and ensure our teams and our customers have the support they need to create successful, compliant, and people-first work zones. - Promotes Behavioral Based Safety policies and procedures for specific areas.
- Monitors and promotes weekly on-site safety inspections including logging, reporting, and documentation
- Investigations and manages accidents, injuries and near misses, and root causes
- Facilitates meetings with and development of Safety Techs in specific areas
- Lead and train Safety Techs or site management in accident management
- Work with and understand the different safety requirements for clients in specific areas
- Safety management for a condensed area within the same metropolitan area or nearby towns.
- Ability to communicate safety goals and contingency plans with area leaders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Able to track information and conduct audits
- Ability to write reports and procedure manuals
- Can effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to work well with others and achieve results through others, without having a direct line of authority over them
- Must possess sound judgement skills, and the ability to prioritize work and deal with stress
- Industrial/Contracting/Oil & Gas/Food & Beverage/Wastewater/ Construction experience preferred
Other Qualifications: This position requires an advanced knowledge of OSHA Standards and successful completion of the OSHA Authorized Instructor Course #500 for Construction and NFPA/70E classes, as well as successful completion of 30-hour OSHA training.Ability to obtain CPR and First aid training certificates. Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university, preferably in Occupational Health or Safety, and four-plus years leading a successful behavior-based safety culture and safety leadership in the construction industry. Location: This role can be based out of Des Moines, Fort Doge, Sioux Center, or Sioux City IA. Travel: Travel will be required and will vary according to geo-market locations. Travel to and from the office and job sites will be approximately 90% of the time, with minimal overnight travel. Benefits of Working at Interstates:
