Are you a strategic tax professional with a passion for solving complex challenges at the intersection of business and tax law? At Enbridge, we're looking for a driven and meticulous individual to join us in a highly technical and dynamic role. You'll lead sophisticated corporate tax research and planning-both international and domestic-to help optimize our organizational structure and enhance after-tax earnings, all while managing risk responsibly.

This position is integral to supporting Enbridge's U.S. business operations, capital development, and M&A activity. You'll collaborate with top-tier professionals across Tax, Law, Treasury, Business Development, Accounting, and external advisors to craft major transactions and influence strategic decisions across the enterprise.

What you will do:

  • In conjunction with the Director, Tax Planning supports the business and corporate development groups in assessing US tax implications of projects under consideration within our US liquids, gas, and renewable businesses. Projects include but are not limited to organic growth, restructuring, divestitures, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Supports the budget & forecasting for taxes function
  • Assists with US Transfer Pricing strategy
  • Monitors external tax environment to ensure timely identification of pending changes in legislation, tax authority assessing policies, and evolving jurisprudence.
  • Prepares and presents technical sessions promoting continuous development of tax staff and participates in knowledge sharing sessions with internal partners across the organization
  • Represents Enbridge tax group on multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Acts as tax lead on assigned projects.
  • Develops an understanding of other tax issues and initiatives being addressed by other members of the Tax Planning Team, including the Director, Tax Planning, to ensure appropriate back-up.
  • Contributes to the financial evaluation of assigned projects, including large and complex international, pipeline and green energy projects, by reviewing the tax section of financial models, performing tax due diligence, researching and documenting complex tax issues, identifying and raising related tax risks and suggesting mitigants for consideration and identifying the tax advantages/disadvantages of alternative investment/divestiture structures, with a view to optimizing the company's after-tax earnings. Reviews and provides tax comments on project related legal agreements.
  • Monitors the international environment and any impacts on Enbridge's business. Advises, recommends and implements business decisions and corporate tax strategy.
  • Transitions successful projects to the Enbridge office and / or tax reporting group that will assume responsibility for tax accounting and reporting. This includes preparation of Step Memo for tax purposes.
  • Provides tax planning support to Tax Reporting in respect to international tax law.
  • Works with the international and corporate planning groups to develop a consistent approach to tax assumptions and modeling for tax items within financial projections and project models for the Enbridge corporate group of companies.
  • Provides ad hoc tax advice to all of the corporate functions/departments including acquisitions and corporate development, planning and economics, treasury, controllers, human resources, law, contracts, risk and other groups, as needed
  • Manages and completes ad-hoc assigned tax projects independently and with limited supervision.
  • Monitors, analyzes and prepares position papers describing the impact of new/proposed tax legislation, in assigned areas of responsibility including international tax, green energy, partnerships and trusts, for the Enbridge tax group, senior management and affected business areas.
  • Carries out research and analysis, and prepares draft technical memos, on a wide variety of US tax issues.
  • Performs modelling and evaluation of various tax planning alternatives, as well as changes in legislation to determine impact on the business and assist in the recommendation of optimal alternative(s) for the business.

Who you are:

You have:

  • 8+ years of tax experience, with a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in tax planning along with a bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a related subject area

You can:

  • Offer a curious mentality with a drive toward continuous learning and problem solving while also being a confident contributor to project groups

You are:

  • An excellent written and verbal communicator with outstanding analytical skills who has a strong proficiency using Excel

  • Certified Public Accountant Designation (CPA)
  • Juris Doctorate (JD)

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
