Fair Food Network (FFN) has had success in securing government and foundation grants since its inception in 2009. In recent years, we have begun to develop and grow a small individual donor program in order to diversify revenue streams and procure the unrestricted funding that allows us to stay nimble in pursuit of our mission. We now seek an Individual Giving Officer to manage and continue to grow this program, including identifying new donors, managing relationships, and securing major gifts. The role will include out-the-door relationship management as well as managing a suite of events and donor engagement activities designed to grow relationships with new and existing donors.
The Individual Giving Officer will report to Cassandra Fletcher-Martin, FFNs Vice President of Finance, and will work closely with the Donor Engagement Team, which manages Fair Food Networks annual giving and digital fundraising strategies. The position is based in Michigan, with some travel across the country required. Fair Food Network currently employs a hybrid office schedule, with Michigan-based staff required to travel to the Detroit office a minimum of two days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage a program of donor engagement events and other activities, including site visits, small educational events and salons, and 1-2 larger annual events tied to key programmatic activities or communications priorities.
- Grow and manage a portfolio of mid-level and major individual donors, including conducting in-person meetings as needed
- Create and execute on annual plans for key major donors and major donor prospects
- Provide donor prep, research and/or background information to other key staff as needed to facilitate donor cultivation and engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues on development of donor engagement communications materials
- Establish expert knowledge of FFNs mission, program activity, and our niche within our field and be able to effectively communicate the organizations work to potential donors and partners
- Work closely with the Development team to track, monitor, report and evaluate activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
- Other duties as appropriate.
What Youll Need:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in individual giving, including experience managing relationships and advancing donors from acquisition to major gifts
- Superb ability and love for relationship building
- Ability to create and execute on donor development plans
- Strategic and creative thinking skills, and with the ability to link FFNs mission and program objectives with donors interests and priorities
- Experience developing a suite of donor events and activities that advance relationships with donors while also building relationships with partners and beneficiary communities (and which are specifically not extractive)
- Experience in personally soliciting and in managing solicitation of individual major gifts
- Skilled in and desire for building a new fundraising program, with modest existing infrastructure and donor pool
- Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Comfortable and skilled in working with numbers, budgets and revenue management
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet with donors, coordinate and attend events, and travel Inspired and committed to FFNs values, mission and commitment to social justice and equity
- Experience working with donor management systems (Salesforce preferred) and research tools such as iWave
