  • Completion of a BS in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, Material Science, or a related Engineering discipline
  • At least 7 years of directly related experience

  • Ability to Grows Developed networks and maintains good interpersonal relationships.

  • At least 10 years of industrial construction experience with direct oversight of welding projects is preferred
  • A working knowledge in welding metallurgy in the area of nuclear pressure vessel materials
  • Extensive experience with nuclear industry welding codes (ASME Sections III, IX, and B&PV Code)
  • Field experiences supporting outage or repair activities under high pressure

As a Welding Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Component Repair and Replacement Business Line in the Installed Base Business Unit. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead advances welding projects across the nuclear fleet, drive innovation in repair technologies, and ultimately shape the technical vision for welding engineering a t the corporate level. Our team operates in the dynamic environment of commercial nuclear power plants, where we are dedicated to delivering innovative, first-of-a-kind (FOAK) solutions for maintenance, repair, and plant modification projects. Your work will include:


  • Provide technical leadership in welding engineering activities related to the repair and replacement of nuclear plant components, ensuring compliance with ASME Code and NRC requirements.
  • Develop and qualify Code-compliant welding procedures (e.g., GTAW, SMAW) for high-integrity applications involving austenitic stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, and dissimilar metal welds.
  • Support field implementation of complex weld repairs through hands-on troubleshooting, procedural support, training, and quality oversight.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Framatome and SGT leadership, aligning strategy across corporate and subsidiary welding programs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians while contributing to standardized practices and corporate knowledge transfer.

Technical Focus Areas:

  • Interpret and apply ASME and AWS Codes with precision to meet regulatory and quality expectations.
  • Operate and support advanced mechanized welding systems used for complex field repairs and component installations.
  • Participate in the fabrication of high-spec components, ensuring full compliance with design and material standards.
  • Develop, qualify, and administer ASME Code procedures, and ensure all personnel maintain appropriate qualifications.
  • Innovate and qualify remote welding techniques that enhance safety, accessibility, and weld integrity.
  • Design repairs for a range of materials and applications, including dissimilar metal welds, narrow groove geometry, and high-alloy materials.
  • Oversee procurement of weld materials to ensure compliance with relevant Codes and traceability standards.
  • Apply GTAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes for field repair and construction, based on specific material and Code requirements.
  • Adapt commercial hardware or develop FOAK tooling for use in proprietary welding systems and site applications.
  • Work with component suppliers and analytical engineers to deliver fully integrated and turnkey repair solutions.
  • Contribute welding engineering expertise to design, fabrication, and licensing of next-generation nuclear reactors.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across Framatome on welding-related topics, fostering technical collaboration across business lines.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $112,000 - $152,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
