Job Summary


Responsible for performing a variety of patient, cafeteria and catering services functions that may include patient visitation, tray assembly, distribution and service, general sanitation, cleaning and use of kitchen equipment and pantries.

Main Duties:
  • Help patients choose meals that match their dietary needs and preferences.

  • Assemble and deliver meal trays accurately and on time.

  • Take and monitor food temperatures; report issues promptly.

  • Pick up trays from patient rooms courteously.

  • Stock and clean food areas and pantries.

  • Operate and clean kitchen equipment safely.

  • Set up and serve food in cafeteria and catering settings.

  • Maintain cleanliness and follow sanitation and safety procedures (HACCP, infection control, etc.).

  • Transport food, carts, and supplies safely throughout the facility.

  • Follow all hospital, department, and safety policies.

  • Communicate patient concerns to the right staff.

  • Handle waste and recyclables properly.

  • Complete required logs, reports, and cleaning schedules on time.

  • Participate in meetings and staff training.

  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior food service experience.
  • Ability to follow simple instructions and safety guidelines.

  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and be physically active (standing, walking, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in prior hospital setting.
