Job Description

General/Position Summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. is hiring an Associate Director, T1D Patient Support Standards to join a new Patient Support Team for T1D in Boston, MA. This position will support the potential launch of cell therapies in Type 1 Diabetes. The primary responsibility of this role will be to lead the development of Quality & Compliance, establishing SOPs and work instructions to ensure care managers deliver exceptional and compliant support for enrolled T1D patients. This role will also be responsible for liaising with legal and OBIE as well as the patient support operations and training teams to ensure consistent results and performance as well as continuous improvement in the care we provide for our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish quality and compliance standards, processes and measurement systems for the T1D Patient Support team
  • Responsible for successful launch preparation/execution, including management of documentation and SOPs for order management and patient support programs
  • Develop and maintain care manager work instructions and SOPs
  • Own on-going enhancements and maintenance for up-to-date documented approvals to ensure compliance/audit readiness and assurance
  • Clearly understand and compliantly support the needs of healthcare providers and patients undergoing treatment and driving cross functional teams to bring forth timely, customer centric solutions
  • Partner with Digital team to enhance systems to better support teams in their daily activities in a compliant manner
  • Work closely with Order Management to create monitoring plan for internal teams
  • Responsible for future data strategy, tools and technologies
  • Define performance metrics along with governance oversight
  • Manage team budget related to external partners
  • Partner with Commercial Training and Change Management teams to ensure necessary materials and training content is consistent with quality and compliance standards
  • Create a culture of compliant cross-functional collaboration; examples of key internal stakeholders will be care managers, marketing, IT, legal, compliance, and manufacturing
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement and partner with colleagues in other disease areas to share learnings / best practices

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • 9 years of combined educational/work experience in any combination of the following:
    • Commercial or clinical trial cell or gene therapy or T1D experience
    • Patient support experience

Required Knowledge / Skills

  • Deep experience in the legal, medical and regulatory environment and application to branded/unbranded initiatives, including understanding of patient support guardrails
  • Attention to detail, highly organized, and strong project management skills
  • Ability to work independently yet function as a team player and experience collaborating offline and managing formal reviews with legal, compliance, marketing
  • Contributes to Vertex's culture of compliance by focusing on ethics and integrity in all interactions and ability to role model the expected behavior for the team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect effectively with peers, as well as more diverse and large audiences
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-driven, environment, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize the workload of the team
  • Patient-centric and customer service minded
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across multiple teams internally & externally Ability to manage up and across an organization; can adeptly identify when/what information to share with leadership and/or cross-functional stakeholders at critical timepoints
  • Experience with budget management and proven ability to manage external partners

Pay Range:

$155,400 - $233,100

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
