This role is located on-site at one of our offices

This position is office-based, meaning regular in-person collaboration or use of office equipment is essential to maximize effectiveness for this team and/or position. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office locations and should expect to be in office 5 days per week.

A lifeline of the Sonos Product Development Process, the HW Labs team is composed of a talented group of engineers, technicians, and support staff. We work closely with our colleagues across all Engineering disciplines and teams to create, test, define, and refine prototype NPIs at every stage of their lifecycle. Our team specializes in troubleshooting, repair, rework, device verification testing, and characterization - ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

In addition to our core responsibilities, the HW Labs team supports a range of other functions, including Mechanical Labs, Fabrication, and 3D printing. This allows us to provide comprehensive support to our colleagues in Engineering, as well as other teams throughout the company.

We take pride in our ability to collaborate effectively with other HW labs teams around the world, including our colleagues in Santa Barbara and Shanghai. By working closely together, we are able to leverage their expertise and resources to deliver high quality products that meet the needs of our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Work with people! This role is in the office and requires daily interaction with the HW and Engineering teams

  • Solve problems - use your expertise and communication skills to own and solve an issue from beginning to end

  • Collaborate cross functionally with engineering on all new product builds

  • This can be live problem solving and design or ongoing projects which involve rework, debugging, prototyping, verification testing, and characterization

  • Perform Root Cause Analysis, including documentation and process improvement

  • Perform detailed signal integrity, quality, and characterization measurements

  • Setup and perform thermal analysis on various products and devices

  • ESD compliance testing and procedure

What You'll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in a hardware design and/or support environment

  • Proven ability to do hands on engineering work e.g., rework, soldering (0201 and larger), test methodology, design and draft circuitry, and product debugging

  • Proficiency using electronic test equipment such as digital oscilloscopes and programmable power supplies

  • Understanding of hardware development best practices in the following functional areas: power, analog, and digital

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills. Communication and focus are key - a "get things done" attitude and healthy boundary setting skills

  • Good housekeeping - inventory tracking, keeping hardware components and tools organized, properly e-wasting superseded tech, and maintaining a clean lab environment

  • Can work independently and take ownership of open issues from beginning to end - proactive, not reactive communication and collaboration

  • Seeks to make improvements and executes with theirs and the company's best interests at center focus

  • Desire to further your formal education (BSEE) or equivalent technical training based on your strengths and interests

  • Ability to consider priorities and people and switch tasks to accommodate changes without losing focus on overall goals

  • Seeks out peers and mentors, navigating within the company to build strong relationships and connections that benefit you and the team

The base pay range for this role based off geographic location is:

$72,000 and $90,300

The specific pay offered will depend on the candidate's geographic location, as well as qualifications and experience. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market. Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of the range. Your recruiter can provide more details about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
