MATERIALS TECHNICIAN (STARLINK INSOURCE MANUFACTURING)

This position is part of the Materials Engineering group, directly supporting the manufacturing and development of SpaceX's Satellite and User Terminal components. You will work alongside a highly skilled team of mechanical and manufacturing engineers focused on developing new manufacturing methods and qualifying processes for production.

As a Material Technician, you will assist an engineering team with planned and unplanned repairs, modifications, and upgrades to production equipment within the Starlink program. This role is key to maximizing the availability of critical production equipment, enabling Starlink to rapidly achieve its mission. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, flexible, quick to learn, works well in fast-paced environments, and maintains a strong "can-do" attitude.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Set up molds and dies, run trial and production parts while meeting target UPH, OEE, and quality standards.
  • Resolve production issues while ensuring design integrity, product quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Communicate shift events effectively with other shifts and production teams.
  • Install, commission, and validate manufacturing equipment for Starlink User Terminal production, with a focus on high pressure die casting, plastic injection molding, and stamping processes.
  • Collaborate closely with equipment and manufacturing engineers to define equipment and process requirements.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on development and production equipment.
  • Provide support to engineering, production and maintenance teams in troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Develop equipment preparation checklists tailored to specific jobs.
  • Identify and proactively implement improvement opportunities within die casting and injection molding operations.
  • Create and maintain spare parts lists for critical equipment.
  • Support process development and validation under aggressive timelines.
  • Assist in the successful transition of products from development to full-scale production.
  • Define and execute maintenance schedules and support activities.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, collect data to identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 1+ years of experience in machine maintenance, mechanical builds, equipment assembly, and testing.


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • 1-2 years of experience with hydraulic/pneumatic and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting advanced electrical circuits, electronic systems, motors & starters, electrically operated equipment and making successful repairs and modifications.
  • Proficient in Excel, Office, and Word.
  • Electrical wiring experience and some knowledge of how PLCs, sensors, and other electrical components are wired and work.
  • Knowledge/experience working with electrical components and/or systems.
  • Knowledge/experience with TIG/MIG welding of steel/aluminum.
  • Able to read mechanical drawings and interpret tolerances (including GD&T).
  • Proficient with mechanical hand tools.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to work at elevated heights occasionally (scissor lifts and articulated boom lifts).
  • Standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are general duties of the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 Ibs unassisted.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends as necessary to accommodate manufacturing and test campaigns.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Materials Technician/Level 1: $23.00 - $27.00/hour
Materials Technician/Level 2: $26.00 - $32.50/hour
Materials Technician/Level 3: $31.00 - $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
