General Summary of Position
Responsible for fulfilling non-clinical support services requests. Performs a variety of tasks independently for the departments within non-clinical support services including, but not limited to: transporting patients and items, delivering linen, food and equipment, stripping, cleaning, moving and storing hospital beds, trash and soiled linen pick-up, morgue cleaning, and other support services requests at the direction of Transport Supervisor, Environmental Services Director, and House Administration.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transports patient, his/her personal possessions, medical records, and attached clinical devices (IV's and oxygen) by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc. to and from various hospital locations, and to the hospital entrance, upon discharge. Ensures the safety of the patient during transport. Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive, offering blankets, checks modesty and engaging in appropriate conversation with the patient.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, and transferring patients to and from examination tables, operative tables, wheelchairs, stretchers and/or beds. Provides lift and positioning assistance as assigned. Assures that patient is comfortable and securely fastened. Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or unfavorable symptoms.
  • Adjusts bed and side rails, ensuring patient has access to bed controls and personal items once patient is back in bed. Reassures patient to obtain cooperation in a calming and professional manner. Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients, family members, physicians and others who may need help in finding their way.
  • Independently executes CapMan transport requests in a timely manner.
  • Transports equipment within units and between units as requested.
  • Collaborates with Mr. Clean and unit secretaries to manage bed movement process on shift; executes bed movement and cleaning, ensuring beds are promptly stripped of linen, cleaned, and placed in appropriate patient rooms or storage areas.
  • Assists nursing staff with removal of expired bodies from units and transport to morgue.
  • Maintains cleanliness in the morgue in accordance with standards of cleanliness and highest quality of cleaning excellence.
  • Communicates with house administration and rounds on units to properly prioritize and execute requests.
  • Cleans transportation equipment by wiping surfaces with pre-mixed cleaning solutions. Reports damaged or malfunctioning transport equipment.
  • Checks linen inventory on units and on linen carts; ensures linen carts are organized and assists with linen cart preparation for the next shift.
  • Completes other duties and special projects as assigned by the Transport Supervisor, Environmental Services Director, or House Administration.
  • Maintains current knowledge and develops new knowledge. When learning needs are identified, participates in training and development activities.
  • Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted timeframe for completion (CPR, License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)
  • Works and communicates appropriately and effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter- departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent required
    • Medical Career Intern currently in High School required or
    • Minimum 18 years of age required or
    • Medical Career Intern with Work Permit

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Experience in healthcare setting required and
    • Previous experience with customer service preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation BLS for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross) within 90 Days required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation NRP for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross preferred
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
    • Basic computer skills to perform data entry
    • HIPAA policies on Confidentiality

    This position has a hiring range of $18 - $28.73
