The Senior Systems Engineer position involves close collaboration with development, operations, and various internal and external teams. In this Dev/Ops role, you will partner with management and colleagues to design and implement new systems and procedures, while also maintaining our existing product platform. Additionally, you will champion automation initiatives that have the potential to benefit multiple departments across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Experience with a range of monitoring and alerting tools, including Grafana, InternalDNS, Naemon, IBM-NOI (Netcool), NTP, Prometheus, Syslog, xMatters, and Influx
  • Install, maintain, and configure production, staging, and quality assurance environments to support Verisign's services
  • Assess customer needs and provide recommendations to improve their processes
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to assist with and improve on tools, systems and procedures used by technology teams within the company
  • Perform daily operational support functions, including problem isolation and resolution
  • Contribute to documentation for tools and processes used by the team to enable knowledge sharing with teams across the company
  • Obtain, create, and maintain future tools that are used by the entire organization
  • Maintain and update existing tools that actively support our production and development environments
  • Coordinate with other technical staff to implement systems and software
  • Participate in a 24/7 on call rotation
  • Regularly report progress to management


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of experience of system administration or related work
  • RHCE level of experience with Linux, strong experience with FreeBSD or another similar Unix-based operating system
  • Solid knowledge of scripting languages (shell, Python, Perl etc.) along with version control systems (git, or similar)
  • Experience with Automation frameworks/systems like Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins
  • Experience with Private Cloud (OpenStack) environments and Cloud-native application architectures
  • Experience collaborating with peer groups such as QA, Development, Operations and Project Management
  • Experience documenting work tasks and changes in tools such as Jira, Service Now, Confluence
  • Comfortable and able to work directly with developers and other engineering teams
  • Experience working in highly productive team environments employing agile practices


Desired Skills:



  • Experience with operating Docker in a production environment
  • Experience with creating and maintaining Docker containers
  • Experience using Jenkins in a continuous delivery and integration environment


This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

The pay range is $164,300 - $222,300.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
