Nursery Supervisor

Job Summary:

TheNursery Supervisor will assist the management team in all phases of the nursery. This challenging opportunity is suitable for individuals who enjoy the outdoors, gardening, and sharing lawn & garden care knowledge. The ideal candidate must be reliable, flexible, organized, detail oriented and a positive team player.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assume the assistant manager's job duties in his/her absence, such as gathering data and completing reports, discipline and performance duties, scheduling, etc.
• Ensure the site opens promptly at 6:45am and properly closes after all the closing out procedures have been completed, alarms have been set, and all locks have been securely fastened.
• Address employee and customer concerns.
• Supervise team responsibilities ensuring plant quality, cycle counts, watering, fertilizing, trimming, etc.
• Be present and available to help all departments (Stone, Nursery, Warehouse, bulk).
• Assist customers with floral, nursery, garden, plant and landscape purchases.
• Load customer vehicles with plants and bulk material including gravel, bases, and stones.
• Operate a skid steer, forklift, and loader (optional: operator duties for selected candidates).
• Operate company trucks with attached utility trailer and mini dump (driving duties for selected candidates).
• Sweep, rake, shovel, care for plants (prune, deadhead, hand-water, control weeds).
• Load and unload delivery trucks, trailers, and semis.
• Maintain neat and safe nursery areas.
• Assist with deliveries as needed.
• Assist with weekend duties.
• Other duties as needed or requested.

Essential Qualifications:

• A HS diploma or GED
• At least three (3) years of experience in a garden center or nursery, with more than three (3) years' experience as a lead or supervisor
• Buying and selling experience with all types of trees, shrubs, plants, landscaping material, etc.
• Knowledge of MS Office Applications (Excel/Word/Outlook)
• Confident, customer focused, and professional
• Basic mathematical skills, including a strong eye for detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skill
• Able to work the required shift hours/days, including Monday to Friday and Saturdays
• Reliable transportation to get to and from work and a valid State issued driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

* Associate degree in horticulture or related field

* Bilingual in Spanish and English

Physical Demands:

* Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time or until the end of the assigned shift

* Must be able to safely and properly lift and carry plants, pots, and other product

* May be asked to lift 50 lbs., on a consistent and regular basis throughout the assigned shift with or without assistance

* Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, reach above shoulder height, crouch, balance, and push/pull

* Must be able to use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating

* Specific vision abilities required include color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

* May vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or less than indicated here.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
