Description

High Liner Foods is proud to be the leading North American processor and marketer of value-added frozen seafood. We are seeking a Refrigeration Technician to become the newest member of our Maintenance Team. The position will support our Newport News, VA facility.

You will operate, inspect, and repair our ammonia refrigeration systems in a frozen food manufacturing environment in accordance with IIAR and ASHRAE standards while adhering to all state and local building codes and required safety regulations.

What you will do:



  • Starts and operates required refrigeration compressors for daily production.
  • Starts and operates required blast freezers for daily production.
  • Evaluate operating parameters of refrigeration plant and adjusts as needed.
  • Operates, monitors, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs refrigeration equipment and all associated valves, piping, and instrumentation.
  • Experience in Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs).
  • Reads electrical diagrams, evaluates, troubleshoots, and solves electrical problems.
  • Documents plant operational activities in the Engine Room Logbook and notes equipment operational parameters on equipment log sheets.
  • Monitors and maintains Refrigeration Systems.
  • Performs periodic tests of Ammonia Detection Alarm System.
  • Reads and interprets technical literature, drawings, prints, and diagrams needed to better operate and/or troubleshoot equipment.
  • Requests materials and supplies necessary to perform duties. Receives and stores supplies.
  • Monitors water chemistry of evaporative condenser units and adjusts chemical feeds to meet optimum operational limits.
  • Coordinates and assists outside contractors performing services to the refrigeration system equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Must Haves:



  • High School Diploma or GED required; secondary education preferred
  • 3 years of Refrigeration experience
  • General mechanical knowledge and abilities
  • Basic math skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in wide temperature range and climate conditions.
  • Ability to be on-call during non-work hours.
  • Must be authorized to work legally in the United States - relocation assistance is available.

Work Environment

The noise level in the office work environment is moderately quiet. The field work environment will expose the employee to loud noise, food grade dust & odors, moving & vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil and electricity. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke and odors.

Allergens found inside the plant include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk and coconut.
