This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

As a Senior SDE embedded in the Test and Flight group, you will lead a small team that participates in the full product lifecycle. You and your team will help gather requirements, design and code features and help support our users. We value people who are ready to learn new things, beginning on the first day. Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of software systems and infrastructure in languages like Java, Python, C++, and Javascript.
  • Build software products that support the company's mission.
  • Mentor software engineers on your team and others.
  • Work alongside design, manufacturing, and flight operations teams to understand opportunities for improvement and points of unnecessary complexity.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and extend commercial products using REST web services.
  • Fix software problems at multiple levels, including installation, deployment, configuration, server-side and client-side issues.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical or field related to the responsibilities.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience writing software and deploying it to a production environment.
  • Deep knowledge of modern programming language, such as, Python, C++, Java.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals skills in algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience building production distributed systems on Amazon Web Services using systems like git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Generalist who can build complex fullstack software systems.
  • Experience developing production level solutions using high performance computing languages.
  • Experience with data engineering platforms, such as, Databricks and Snowflake.
  • Ability to solve problems by writing efficient working code, even when given incomplete or ambiguous requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with and communicate complex systems to a diverse user base.
  • Experience leading software projects in a team setting, including architecture, design, and code review.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Experience working with or in AI / LLM tooling.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $177,567.00-$248,593.80

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
