The Sleep Lab Supervisor/Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) is responsible for conducting sleep studies and providing comprehensive evaluations and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), CPAP titration, and patient education. The RPSGT works under the general supervision of a licensed physician and/or the Sleep Center Manager to perform diagnostic and therapeutic polysomnographic procedures.

Location: Colonial Healthcare - Neurology, 385 W Wesmark Blvd, Sumter, SC 29150

Schedule: Night Shift on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday 12-hour shifts

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Pre-Study Preparation

    • Verify physician orders and patient history
    • Explain procedures and answer patient questions
    • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning
    • Apply electrodes and sensors according to AASM standards


  • Data Acquisition

    • Perform sleep studies including polysomnography, MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test), MWT (Maintenance of Wakefulness Test), and HSAT
    • Monitor study throughout the night, ensuring patient safety and data integrity
    • Recognize and respond appropriately to patient needs and equipment malfunctions
    • Document routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, and significant physiological changes


  • Scoring and Data Analysis

    • Score sleep studies in accordance with AASM scoring criteria and facility protocols
    • Generate detailed reports for physician interpretation
    • Maintain accurate patient records and data logs


  • Therapeutic Interventions

    • Administer CPAP, BiPAP, ASV, and other modalities as ordered
    • Monitor and adjust therapeutic settings based on patient response and titration protocol
    • Educate patients on the proper use and maintenance of sleep equipment


  • Compliance and Quality Assurance

    • Maintain compliance with all AASM, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility standards
    • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives
    • Maintain RPSGT credential and complete required continuing education

Required Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as a RPSGT
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Solid understanding of sleep physiology and pathophysiology
  • Proficient in the use of sleep study equipment and scoring software (e.g., Alice, Natus, Embla)
  • Proven excellent communication and patient care skills
  • Proven solid attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and make quick decisions in emergent situations



Preferred Qualification:



  • Associate's degree in a health science field
  • 1+ years of experience in a sleep lab setting



Working Conditions:



  • Night shifts
  • Position may require standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases is possible
