The Environmental Technician will support the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of water treatment systems at Red Hill, including filtration units, pumps, and piping. This hands-on role involves fieldwork such as sampling, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with strict safety and environmental standards. Key duties include monitoring system performance, conducting operational checks, preparing chemical feed solutions, performing preventive maintenance, and completing minor repairs on pumps, valves, and instrumentation. This position combines technical expertise with scientific precision in a dynamic work environment.
Location: Honolulu, HI - Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Expected Outcomes
  • Operate and maintain water treatment systems (e.g., pumps & valves).
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Collect water, groundwater, and soil samples in the field.
  • Perform mechanical work related to pipes and water treatment systems.
  • Troubleshoot field issues independently, especially while on call.
  • Must be prepared to respond to system shutdowns and alarms promptly, including after-hours and weekend support when on call.
  • Because the plant operates 24-7, the position does require on-call availability on weekends that is rotated between the two other team members.
  • Perform and record meter readings (flow, pressure, and totalizer) to monitor system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports of daily operations.
  • Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
  • Prepare reports and documentation of field activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in environmental science or water treatment preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science with relevant field experience is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of experience in water treatment, environmental remediation, or related field.
  • Knowledge of pumps, valves, and filtration systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain security clearance if required.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Complies with Weston Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and site-specific safety plans. Responsible for personal EHS compliance, and actively engages co-workers in EHS compliance. May serve in an EHS leadership role directing, mentoring, and training staff in EHS activities.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $44,485-$58,323-$72,058
