Position Title: Soldering Technician

Location: Oldsmar, FL

Shift: Monday-Thursday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM EST (Overtime available on weekends)


Position Overview

The Soldering Technician is responsible for performing high-precision soldering, inspection, and rework of electronic assemblies in a production environment. This role requires advanced skills in both surface mount and through-hole soldering, strong familiarity with inspection standards, and the ability to identify and correct soldering defects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working under a microscope and hold current or prior IPC certifications.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform soldering and rework of electronic components using hand soldering tools, rework stations, and hot air equipment.



  • Use a microscope to verify part placement and orientation, inspect post-reflow solder joints, and perform touch-up as needed.



  • Identify and correct soldering defects such as poor wetting, voids, bridges, misalignment, tombstoning, or billboarded components.



  • Utilize Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to assist in detecting solder issues and accurately distinguish between real and false defect calls.



  • Read and interpret assembly instructions, schematics, and component identifiers for proper installation and soldering.



  • Use X-ray inspection to identify solder defects on bottom-terminated components such as BGAs or QFNs.



  • Perform rework operations using tools such as hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal equipment (ERSA or similar).



  • Solder and tack jumper wires on re-design boards as needed.



  • Ensure compliance with all IPC standards (IPC-610, J-STD-001, 7711/7721) and company quality requirements.



  • Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD-compliant work environment.



  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced production setting, supporting overtime and schedule flexibility when required.




Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of 5 years of professional soldering experience in electronics manufacturing or rework.



  • Strong proficiency in surface mount (SMT) and through-hole soldering techniques.



  • Ability to work under a microscope for extended periods of time.



  • Experience identifying and correcting soldering defects and performing high-reliability repairs.



  • IPC-610 and IPC J-STD-001 certifications (active or expired) required.



  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.



  • Ability to read and follow detailed assembly drawings, work instructions, and specifications.



  • Must be able to sit for long periods and maintain focus on precise, repetitive tasks.




Preferred Qualifications


  • IPC-7711/7721 certification (active or expired).



  • Experience running AOI equipment and performing X-ray inspection analysis.



  • Experience with jumper wire installation and soldering on re-design or prototype boards.




Additional Information


  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM EST; overtime may be required on weekends.



  • Work Environment: Controlled manufacturing environment with ESD precautions.



  • Physical Requirements: Extended periods of sitting and microscope work; fine hand-eye coordination required.
