This position is a key on-site technical resource within Nokia's Delivery and Operations Optics Manufacturing Team to provide support for transitioning from new product development to high-volume production. The Product Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the product designs are cost-effective and manufactured in high-volume, managing products through the manufacturing line, overall process improvement, as well as yield and WIP reporting. Key Responsibilities: The Staff product engineer would be responsible for new product introduction of optical systems into production by working closely with development, operations, and CM teams. Review design specifications and ensure designs (optical, electrical, and mechanical) are cost-effective, manufacturable, and are of high quality. Drive qualifications of new product components. Be a key member of the cross-functional product development and operations team. Review product test plans, methodology, specifications, and MFG process flow. Implement ECOs based on design or product changes. Partner with process engineers and contract manufacturers for yield and process improvements. Work with component engineering on quality and cost-reduction opportunities by defining and driving the cost-reduction initiatives or alternative sourcing requirements. Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for field/production failures as needed. Report and summarize product yields and WIP positioning to the company. Lead meetings to track process and product yield improvements. Transition the manufacturing line to a CM when needed. Required Skills/Qualifications: * BSEE/Physics, advanced degree preferred. * Working knowledge of active and passive optical components and modules. * 5+ years of direct experience with complex, high-speed optical systems, preferably in the communications industry. * Hands-on experience with high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment, control, data acquisition, and testing automation. * Experience with products utilizing embedded processors, Ethernet/PCIe switches, FPGAs, DSPs, and power sequencing. * Able to understand designs sufficiently to troubleshoot and debug root causes. * Proficient with statistical analysis. * Requires a strong understanding of change controls and process flow. * Experience with MES systems like SAP. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
