What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a CEI Transportation Technician II to join our Transportation Team in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington or Asheville, NC!

What you'll be challenged to do:

Project Documentation & Specifications Compliance
  • Must have a thorough understanding of NCDOT Standard Specifications, Standard Drawings, Special Provisions, Project Contracts, and how each aligns with the NCDOT Construction Manual.

  • Maintain familiarity with all applicable project documentation and ensure construction is performed according to contract requirements.

Site Operations & Daily Responsibilities
  • Responsible for driving company vehicle to/from and on project sites as needed.

  • Set up and maintain accurate Material Received Books and collect all necessary material certifications from contractors.

  • Conduct accurate field measurements of construction work and document findings in Inspector's Daily Reports (IDRs).

  • Perform on-site testing (e.g., compaction, density, concrete sampling) as required to verify compliance with specifications.

  • Review and verify materials prior to installation to ensure compliance with project standards.

  • Identify and report potential construction issues to the contractor and Resident Engineer; maintain open lines of communication with the project team.

  • Understand and assist in the review of pay applications, verifying quantities and coordinating with contractors and DOT representatives.

  • Maintain awareness of construction schedules and track project progress.

Regulatory, Safety & Quality Assurance
  • Responsible for project-specific Quality System tasks as outlined in the company's Quality Manual.
  • Ensure work conforms to federal, state, and local laws, safety regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
  • Implement and follow all company-mandated safety procedures and encourage safe practices on-site.
  • Responsible for responding to and resolving inquiries or complaints from the Resident Engineer or client.
Education | Experience:

What you'll bring to our firm:

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in construction, transportation, or civil infrastructure industries.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain all required NCDOT certifications for the assigned project.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable driving record.

  • Strong knowledge of construction inspection methods, materials, and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, blueprints, and maps.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Able to operate standard inspection tools, including levels and measuring devices.

  • Understanding of construction surveying procedures and ability to compute cuts/fills and grade elevations.

  • Capable of using basic math to calculate quantities, percentages, and cost estimates.

  • Able to draw and interpret bar graphs, tables, and other visual data tools.

  • Experience working with pay applications, quantity verifications, and material documentation is a plus.

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance related to transportation construction.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly explain technical information.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
  • Effective at problem-solving and resolving field issues in coordination with contractors and engineers.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail in high-paced environments.
  • Collaborative team player who engages multiple perspectives and encourages knowledge sharing among colleagues.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in outdoor environment 95% of the time.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Travel via automobile on daily basis.

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $25.00 - $35.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
