Overview

The ISE's Sustainability Coordinator facilitates the implementation of institutional sustainability strategies and works collaboratively to develop, implement and evaluate programs and projects through a systems-based environmental, social, and economic perspective. The Coordinator serves to sustain and grow current sustainability initiatives through partnerships and work with stakeholders in offices across campus. This position will facilitate the continuation and development of new sustainability projects and programs as a means of fostering and enhancing a campus culture of sustainability, and advancing Clarkson University as a sustainability leader in higher education.

Hours: 17.5 per week.



Responsibilities

* Under the guidance of the Director of the Institute for a Sustainable Environment, works to implement strategies and programs that support the sustainability goals and objectives of the University.
* Manage student interns and other volunteers (mentoring, team building, administration, organization)
* Support the tracking Sustainability Progress (expertise in sustainability practices, resource use, best management practices, tracking tools and metrics)

* Builds involvement in sustainability initiatives for the university among students, employees, supervisors, management, and representatives from other campuses in the region.
* Maintains contact with various groups and programs on campus and in the region to achieve sustainability.
* Identify and prioritize both short and long-term sustainability projects by working with stakeholders on campus to develop comprehensive and strategic work plans for campus sustainability projects.
* Fosters organizational and individual behavior change for enhanced sustainability using social marketing and other effective, efficient methodologies.
* Oversees the planning and coordinating of a wide variety of campus events, workshops, meetings, trainings, and conferences.
* Oversees student internship program and manages student interns, volunteers, and other subordinate office staff as delegated by Director.
* Supports campus environmental and sustainability assessment on a periodic basis, compiling information and conducting analysis.
* Supports the maintenance of the website and social media platforms
* Provide expertise and advice to appropriate departments as to how they can integrate the UN Sustainable Development Goals into their operations; design and supervise pilot projects to expand sustainability on campus.
* 12. Keeps current with sustainability laws, regulations, products, technologies, programs, best practices of similar institutions etc. and ensure that information is distributed appropriately.

* Performs other projects, duties and initiatives as assigned by Director of the Institute for a Sustainable Environment
* Flexibility in work schedule required due to events occurring nights and weekends and special events, including but not limited to commencement.



Qualifications

* At least a BS degree in field related to environmental science, science, engineering or management is required; MS degree preferred.
* More than three years of practical work experience in sustainability initiatives and experience in a project management role; experience in higher ed preferred

* A valid driver's license, transportation, and a driving record acceptable to the college's automobile insurer.

* The successful Sustainability Coordinator will be a creative, collaborative problem-solver and negotiator with strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of environmental management policies, issues, and initiatives. Experience with energy, water and waste conservation in buildings. Preferred: Understanding of environmental best practices in universities.
* Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships.
* Strong communication skills including writing and public speaking. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly.
* Ability to work independently, to be a team leader and to work as a team member.
* Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, organizational and management skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites, and an ability to learn other software as needed.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.

* Be creative, collaborative problem-solver and negotiator with strong critical thinking
* Have knowledge and capacity to continue to learn about environmental management policies, issues, and initiatives.
* Experience with energy, water and waste conservation in buildings.
* Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships
* Change management including persuasion and building of consensus in diverse groups
* Exceptionally strong time management skills, and the ability to conceive and execute large projects from inception to completion
