Job Summary

Lead staff and supervise all activities in gym or park facilities. Monitor the facility, assist customers and officials, open and close facility, set up game equipment, clean up facility after use, and make written and verbal reports to Program Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor. Assist referee staff and volunteer coaches and parents throughout game play. Specific sports experience is not required but is preferred.

Responsibilities

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Youth Sports Facility Lead is an entry-level position that assists with youth aged sport programs, facilities, and events. This position may report to Program Coordinators and/or Recreation Supervisors.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Transport sports gear and equipment between storage and facilities.

  • Set up and break down the facility before and after game days, ensuring cleanliness and organization.

  • Promote and model positive sportsmanship and core program values.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth participants, coaches, officials, and parents.

  • Manage game flow and logistics in a professional and consistent manner.

  • Respond to participant needs and issues with sound judgment and a customer-first attitude.

  • Provide exceptional customer service and represent the department in a positive and courteous manner.

  • Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator regarding concerns, incidents, or customer feedback.

  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and enforce program guidelines.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other staff members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications

Youth Sports Facility Lead Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Ability to work weekends for the full duration of the season.

  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certificate.

  • Education: No minimum education requirements.

  • Demonstrates strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle multiple inquiries and respond calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations.

  • Proven ability to resolve conflicts and think critically to solve problems on the spot.

  • Attends all required staff meetings and approved training sessions to maintain program standards and safety compliance.

  • Capable of responding appropriately to safety concerns and emergency situations in a fast-paced environment.

  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and navigate stairs and/or ladders as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional, passionate about the game, reliable, and able to manage stressful situations.

  • Effective communicator with players, coaches, and officials.

  • Experience working or participating in a youth sports environment.

  • Prior experience as a referee or sports official is helpful but not required

Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certificate within 90 days of hire.

  • May be required to possess a Washington State driver's license and submit a driving abstract, depending on area of assignment.


Other

Physical Demands and Working Environment: Work may be performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including City facilities such as community centers, City parks, Lake Washington School District facilities and off-site locations. Gymnasium (indoor) work which requires ability to run and keep alert in a fast-paced environment. Work settings may involve high levels of noise, many people, adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, standing for extended periods of time, and interruptions. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and use stairs.

Hours of Work
BASKETBALL: Games take place on Saturdays, January - March at Kirkland Middle School and Kamiakin Middle School. Facility Leads will be responsible for the building from 8am-5pm with a break between.
  • Youth Basketball Dates: January 10, 17, 24, 31; February 7, 21, 28; March 7, 14, 21 (Tentative)
