Oversee the daily operation and management of a PETCO store and provide leadership and guidance to additional stores in "market" to ensure they meet profitability projections. Supervise, manage, train, and develop subordinate managers and their hourly store personnel in all areas and functions required to run store efficiently and to PETCO standards. Lead the stores through the implementation of plans and proper execution of the Corporate Merchandising and Operations Plan in an effort to maximize profits to meet or exceed Company financial objectives. Provide and foster a high level of customer satisfaction utilizing the "Guest + Model". Ensure a high level of store standards and adherence to PETCO's policies and procedures. This position requires action be taken regarding merchandise placement, staffing decisions and problem resolution which may or may not be covered by specific operating procedures, and therefore individual judgment is frequently required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Achieve Store and assigned market stores' financial objectives by maximizing associate and customer engagement, in-stocks, proper expense control and utilization of best practices of top performing departments. Analyze and monitor the sales and expense figures for each store to ensure that store profitability is maximized.
Visit assigned stores regularly to ensure a high level of customer engagement is present and we are providing our customers with a positive shopping experience. Within the guidelines of Guest Care orientation, ensure that all associates are properly trained to provide outstanding customer service, and take corrective action when necessary.
Recruit, train, develop and manage Store staff to ensure that market stores are adequately staffed at all times and succession plans are appropriately maintained for District/Regional needs.
Company standards, policies, procedures and merchandising programs are implemented, and ensure that all new policies and procedures are properly implemented on a timely basis. Ensure all local, state and federal regulations are implemented and adhered to.
Provide counsel to Management associates, to include personnel issues, store events, problem solving, crisis intervention, etc. and foster open communications with store personnel and the community through periodic newsletters, store promotions, etc. Work closely with market Store Managers and Regional staff to maximize local store marketing events.
Conduct regular visits to competitor locations and report observed changes in prices, operations, policies, etc. to the appropriate levels of management.
Conduct regular audits of store paperwork, including bank deposit slips, overages/shortages, etc. and track trends to ensure that cash control procedures are in place and observed. Ensure that all market stores are aware of company directed Shrink reduction initiatives and comply with Loss Prevention programs.
Drive the Pet Services business to increase sales and profitability. Support this segment by partnering with the market Store Managers, Grooming Salon Managers and Pet Services Coordinator and other support staff to increase sales and extra services through the use of goal setting.
Plan and set individual as well as store goals, and track the progress of each to ensure that objectives are met.
Adhere to and promote through instruction established safety procedures.
Monitor merchandise levels in all market stores and coordinate the balance of stock between stores to ensure that inventory levels are adequate. Audit quarterly and annual physical inventory counts for accuracy and to detect merchandise allocation problems. Follow-up on Regional Inventory Manager recommendations to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
Complete semi-annual performance evaluations and annual merit increase recommendations for all market Store Managers and submit them to the District Manager for approval. Ensure employee reviews are administered prior to due dates.
All tasks and functions that apply to the specific stores and store managers are within the scope of the position as laid out in the guidelines of the company policies and procedures. Primary responsibilities are to ensure a well-run, efficient retail operation that provides "Guest Plus" customer satisfaction, meets high standards of operation and meets or exceeds financial expectations.
Expectation is to meet or exceed the following performance measures: CLI results, shrink, labor, and all other specific P&L measurements, in-stock audits, risk assessment database, customer counts and adherence to retail operations plan.
Perform all "Duties and Responsibilities" as listed in the job description for General Managers as they relate to their assigned store as the General Manager.

Nature of Supervision:
The District Lead typically gives instruction at a global level, on conference calls or at district meetings. Any specific direction required (re. Store manager changes, sensitivity issues, etc.) is handled on a one-to-one basis.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Job duties entail primary responsibility for training and developing Store staff at all levels in the absence of the manager, including assignment delegation, instruction and follow through. The District Lead is required to approve performance evaluations for all store associates and to provide guidance in the form of progressive discipline, whenever necessary, in accordance with established procedures. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the District Lead to communicate all situations and/or conditions that affect the
market (i.e., customer complaints/requests, inadequate inventory levels, unemployment hearings, etc.) with the appropriate level of management or department.
Educational Background:
A college degree is preferred and a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required, and one to three years of additional experience in the field of business management is required. An applicant must be able to demonstrate advanced math proficiency and exceptional communication skills.
Previous Experience:
A qualified candidate for District Lead would possess previous experience in a retail setting, to include control of multiple locations, one location with multiple departments or a background managing several locations in a highly active environment. In addition, job responsibilities require that a District Lead possess an aptitude for training, motivation and sales techniques as well as a professional appearance and demeanor. Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
Work Environment:
The District Lead position requires that quality time be spent traveling between stores, sometimes several hundred miles per week. There may be risk of injury resulting from improper procedures while assisting customers and store personnel.
Asset Responsibility:
The District Lead is accountable for safeguarding all stores under his/her supervision, as well as all merchandise, cash and assets contained therein. In addition, this person is responsible for ensuring that the customers and the company are protected. Asset protection entails minimizing company liability from employees and customers through fair and proper methods of business.
