JOB TITLE: Systems Engineer
AGENCY SUPPORTED:
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - USCIS OIT Architecture Engineering Support (AES2)
LOCATION: Burlington, VT (onsite)
POSITION TYPE: Full-time
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability security clearance, which typically requires 2-4 weeks for processing and must be completed prior to the start date.

The project supports USCIS's Office of Information Technology by delivering enterprise IT architecture, engineering, and solution development services. The team partners across OIT to design, implement, and optimize secure, scalable, and high-performance infrastructures that support critical mission operations.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining system infrastructures across Linux, Windows, and multi-cloud environments. This role requires experience with systems engineering, administration, virtualization, and automation frameworks to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable IT environments. The engineer will also integrate automation and CI/CD practices to improve efficiency and system performance.



Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure system infrastructures in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Administer Linux and Windows systems, including configuration, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Manage and support cloud infrastructure and virtualization technologies.
  • Leverage automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform to streamline provisioning, configuration, and system management.
  • Implement CI/CD practices to support efficient system deployment and updates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system solutions align with enterprise objectives.
  • Develop documentation, standards, and best practices for system operations and administration.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues to maintain uptime and performance.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in systems engineering, administration, or related roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in:
    • Systems engineering and Linux/Windows systems administration
    • Cloud infrastructure and virtualization technologies
    • Automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform)
    • CI/CD pipelines and integration practices
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain DHS Suitability clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is based onsite in Burlington, VT. Candidates must be able to work in a standard office environment and participate in in-person meetings and operations as required.
