JOB TITLE: Platform/On-Prem Engineer
AGENCY SUPPORTED:
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - USCIS OIT Architecture Engineering Support (AES2)
LOCATION: Burlington, VT (onsite)
POSITION TYPE: Full-time
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability security clearance, which typically requires 2-4 weeks for processing and must be completed prior to the start date.

The project supports USCIS's Office of Information Technology by delivering enterprise IT architecture, engineering, and solution development services. The team partners across OIT to design, implement, and optimize secure, reliable, and scalable platforms in support of mission-critical operations.

The Platform / On-Prem Engineer will be responsible for engineering, implementing, and supporting cloud and on-premises platform solutions. This role requires experience in cloud platform engineering, service management, hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, and platform security. The engineer will ensure scalability, reliability, and high performance across enterprise platforms, while contributing to cost management and optimization efforts.



Responsibilities

    Design, engineer, and support cloud and on-premises platform solutions across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Manage cloud services to ensure scalability, availability, and security.
  • Implement platform engineering strategies that improve system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align platform architecture with enterprise and mission objectives.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud costs while maintaining compliance and performance standards.
  • Document platform configurations, processes, and operational best practices.
  • Support modernization initiatives including hybrid cloud adoption and enterprise platform security enhancements.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, or related roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in:
    • Cloud platform engineering and cloud service management
    • Hybrid and multi-cloud strategies
    • Platform security and compliance best practices
    • Cost management and optimization in cloud environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain DHS Suitability clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with advanced platform security practices.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud design and deployment.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native cost optimization tools and practices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is based onsite in Burlington, VT. Candidates must be able to work in a standard office environment and participate in in-person meetings and operations as required.
