Overview
The Marcom Media Specialist supports the College of Arts & Sciences (ArtSci) marketing and communications (marcom) team through the creation of engaging media content, including photography, video, and other digital assets. This part-time position reports directly to the Communications Manager, with a dotted-line report to the Marcom Media Designer, and collaborates closely with team members-especially social media staff and interns-to produce materials for events, campaigns, social platforms, and internal projects. The Media Specialist may also assist with basic design, writing, and project-related coordination. This role is ideal for a developing creative professional with demonstrated media experience, strong communication skills, and a willingness to grow through team training and hands-on assignments. Completion of the ArtSci media boot camp is required as part of onboarding.

Responsibilities
55% Media Production & Support
  • Capture high-quality photos and video footage at events, for promotional use, and as part of ongoing campaign needs.
  • Edit and produce video and photo content using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Lightroom, or comparable tools).
  • Prepare deliverables in appropriate formats and dimensions for social media, websites, digital signage, and other marketing platforms.
  • Follow team guidelines and brand standards to ensure media aligns with ArtSci's visual identity.
  • Support the Marcom Media Designer in developing larger-scale or more complex media projects.
  • Organize and manage media files to support team access, usage, and archiving.
  • May be tasked with additional multimedia support such as podcast/audio recording/editing, livestream setup, or related technical assistance.

20% Content Coordination & Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Social Media Specialist, marcom interns, and other team members to deliver timely media content for campaigns and events.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Manager and Marcom Media Designer to understand project goals, timelines, and creative direction.
  • Respond to content needs or requests from the team, and communicate progress and completion status clearly.
  • Contribute ideas for new content opportunities, including recurring media series or story-driven projects that align with ArtSci's strategy.
  • Support integrated projects by ensuring media content complements written, visual, and strategic campaign components.


15% Writing, Editing, & Adaptation
  • Draft or edit basic written content to accompany media projects, such as social media captions, video descriptions, or short scripts.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to ensure copy is clear, engaging, and aligned with ArtSci's voice and messaging.
  • Adapt written content to fit platform-specific needs, visual storytelling formats, or accessibility standards (e.g., captions or transcripts).
  • Assist with light proofreading or revision of content tied to media projects or campaign deliverables as needed.

10% Training, Development, & Process Alignment
  • Complete the ArtSci media boot camp prior to or at the start of employment to establish foundational production and brand knowledge.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions provided by the Communications Manager, Marcom Media Designer, and other team leaders.
  • Learn and follow ArtSci marcom processes, timelines, and naming/file organization standards for project coordination.
  • Seek out opportunities to build new skills in media production, writing, and campaign support to grow within the role.
  • Stay informed on media trends, tools, and best practices that could enhance ArtSci's storytelling and outreach.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in photography, videography, or other media production (through work, coursework, or portfolio).
  • Strong interest in developing skills in media, writing, and communications.
  • Ability to use basic photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and take initiative on assigned projects.
  • Completion of or willingness to enroll in the ArtSci media boot camp as part of onboarding.
  • Willingness to participate in team trainings and apply feedback to grow in the role.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience producing media content for social media, websites, or events.
  • Familiarity with brand guidelines, accessibility standards, or university-style communications.
  • Basic writing or copyediting skills related to media projects (e.g., captions, scripts, descriptions).
  • Experience using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, microphones, lighting kits, or other media equipment.
  • Previous work in a team setting or in support of a creative project.
