The WVU Cancer Institute/Clinical Research Unit at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Research Business Coordinator position. About the Opportunity Coordinates research business activities for the WVU Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Research Unit. This includes activities from the budget negotiation process, preparing appropriate forms for submission, assuring billing compliance with Medicare Coverage Analysis, preparing dashboards, ensuring adherence to contract terms, to the closing out of all business or financial study-related activities through the WVU Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). What You'll Do
- Coordinates with Clinical Research Specialist and Investigators to ensure each study budget full represents work to be completed on the study (personnel time, testing, procedures, fees, supplies, etc.).
- Negotiates study budgets with sponsors.
- Reviews study budget submission documents from clinical research protocols to ensure consistency with institutional compliance guidelines.
- Prepares appropriate forms for submission to the Office of Sponsored Programs.
- Coordinates the review and execution of all clinical trial agreements.
- Assures billing compliance by developing Medicare Coverage Analysis and communicating with Hospital billing for order set development.
- Assists in operational reports for PIs, study personnel, and administrators.
- Oversees metrics and dashboard reporting.
- Oversees business development projects with CTRU leadership.
- Ensures adherence to the terms of the contracts with sponsors.
- Responds to questions regarding any research business for financial issues.
- Maintains knowledge of professional principles, legal and/or reporting requirements affecting area of responsibility, and adheres to industry and government standards.
- Gathers anecdotal and raw data, assesses situation or program information, considers options, proposes resolutions, creates reports and translates data to graphical media or code.
- Contacts investigators, coordinators, and sponsors to establish rapport, understanding and/or inform, as well as facilitate use of the organization's programs, services and/or products.
- Testifies before auditors and administrators, if necessary.
- Assists in networking opportunities, and continuing education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, public administration or related discipline.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
- Research business aspects of industry and government clinical trials.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of research business and financial aspects of industry and government-sponsored clinical trials.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of general medical billing terminology to interpret study calendars and match with hospital charge master.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
- Knowledge of electronic equipment (fax, copier, printer, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as spreadsheet and word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Read, interpret, follow and communicate documents such as procedure manuals, data from accounting and financial reports, organizational policies and procedures, and other sources as needed.
- Organize information, perform financial calculations, draw logical conclusions, prepare financial reports, analyze and summarize data for supervisor and upper level management review. Develop and prepare sequential reports as needed.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines. Select, set and meet appropriate goals from among competing demands.
- Ability to use desktop notebook and personal computers, and utilize computer programs such as the MS Office Suite, with concentration in Excel..
- Excellent attention to detail.
