Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for a Coder, Certified. A Coder, Certified Codes and abstracts all clinic medical records, for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis and procedure(s) using ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS classification systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to accurately complete data entry at relatively high speed, utilizing grammar and spell check software.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish preferred.
  • Intermediate computer literacy (i.e., use system to manage and schedule appointments, access electronic medical record information).
  • Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic tests, procedures, pathology terms, and drug reference books.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ICD-9_CM and HCPCS/CPT coding and abstracting procedures.
  • Intermediate knowledge of JC, Title 22, and Medicare regulations pertaining to coding and abstracting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and current medical techniques, procedures, and medications.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Record Technology preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of medical coding experience required.Experience during CPC-Apprenticeship certification period qualifies.
  • CPC or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver's license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits.

$24.00 - $30.74

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
