DESCRIPTION
UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is growing in the diverse areas of professional educational programs, cutting-edge research, and pharmacy services. The school is committed to offering a dynamic learning environment and growing opportunities to its talented and dedicated employees. Applies advanced computational, computer science, data science, and software research and development principles to perform complex distributed computing architectural design, administration, and maintenance, involving in-depth evaluation of variable factors impacting medium to large projects of broad scope and complexities. Designs, develops, and optimizes storage systems for repository systems receiving and serving multiple petabytes of data, as well as systems and tools for major High Performance Computing (HPC) and data science projects. Evaluates and recommends new hardware and software technologies to advance these projects. Resolves complex research and technology development and integration issues. Manages large-scale storage needs, developing and managing backup solutions for project and user data, including infrastructure for controlled-access data as required for HIPAA-protected data. Designs, implements and manages the networking infrastructure to connect all servers, storage systems, compute systems and virtual machines. Develops and maintains configuration management infrastructure, providing documentation on management practices and methods, providing systems administration for all systems of the Center for Computational Mass Spectrometry (CCMS). Develops and coordinates enhancements to and re-engineering of these systems in keeping with the long-range needs and objectives of the center. Gives technical presentations to associated research and technology groups and management. May represent the organization as part of a team at national and international meetings, conferences and committees. Assists in the design, implementation and recommends new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects. May lead a team of research and technical staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
