Position: Business Development Manager - Community Outreach & Field Sales
Location: Onsite (Retail Location, CT)
Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 40+ hours/week with regular evening and weekend availability for community and networking events


Overview:
Seeking a full-time Business Development Manager to lead local customer acquisition efforts and expand brand presence through direct outreach, networking, and relationship-building. As a neighborhood-focused organization, we believe in the power of showing up, engaging authentically, and serving with purpose.
We are launching our first customer-facing retail space and need someone who can connect with residents, small businesses, and local groups to spread the word about our services and values.
Compensation: $53,000 base salary; depending on experience. Commission structure to be determined
About the Role:
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for in-person engagement, local canvassing, direct outreach, and representing the brand at community events and business gatherings. This role will focus on grassroots efforts to build relationships and generate leads, working closely with internal teams to coordinate field marketing efforts, promotions, and community initiatives.
You'll report to the Director of Business Operations and work alongside a small, collaborative team that includes technical, customer service, and installation professionals. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-person outreach, including door-to-door visits, cold calls, and community canvassing to drive customer sign-ups
  • Represent the company at tabling events, local festivals, chamber of commerce meetings, and business networking functions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders such as small business owners, property managers, neighborhood associations, and residents
  • Identify new business or partnership opportunities and provide market feedback to inform campaigns
  • Assist with field marketing logistics, event coordination, and on-the-ground activation efforts
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure outreach aligns with current service areas and marketing priorities
  • Track outreach activities and conversion data using a CRM or lead management system
  • Report regularly on performance metrics, community feedback, and lead pipeline status
Requirements:
  • 2-4 years of experience in business development, sales, field marketing, or community outreach
  • Strong communication skills and confidence initiating conversations with new people
  • Self-starter who thrives in a field-based, fast-moving environment
  • Familiarity with lead tracking tools or CRM platforms
  • Deep understanding of local communities and comfort navigating neighborhoods or small business networks
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings, based on event and outreach schedules
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
