Responsibilities & Expectations:

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Intake / Intermediate Testing Technician to join our service center team. This role is responsible for performing intake inspections, electrical and mechanical testing, and intermediate diagnostics on AC/DC motors, generators, and related equipment. The position plays a key role in evaluating equipment condition, ensuring accuracy of repair scopes, and supporting shop and field operations. Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform intake inspections on incoming motors, generators, gearboxes, and related equipment to document condition and customer concerns.
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical testing, including megger, surge, hipot, winding resistance, and core loss tests, following IPS standards and customer specifications.
  • Record and interpret test data, identifying abnormalities and recommending next steps.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining accurate job travelers, work orders, and test documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting and failure analysis during repair and rebuild processes.
  • Collaborate with mechanics, winders, and engineering staff to ensure repair plans align with test findings.
  • Maintain calibration and care of test equipment and tools.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and hazard-free work environment.
  • Participate in IPS's culture of continuous improvement and contribute to process efficiency.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certificate preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in motor testing, electrical troubleshooting, or related industrial repair environment.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC electric motor principles, winding insulation, and common failure modes.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and commitment to quality.
  • Basic computer proficiency (data entry, test report documentation).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a shop environment.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
