The IT Business Partner III (Business Relationship Manager - BRM) is a strategic role that will work closely with IT and business leaders and employees at all levels in an assigned scientific division, to provide support, information, guidance, and consultation, and to facilitate the delivery of IT services that support research and administration.

The BRM is the primary liaison between the scientific division(s) and IT and is responsible for understanding the needs and complexities of the scientific divisions in finding appropriate solutions for the research teams and programs. As a member of the Research Information Technology and Scientific Computing (RITSC) department, the position works closely with research business leaders and employees at all levels to facilitate IT services, define priorities and solve problems. Partnering with other IT teams - including information security, helpdesk, project management office, scientific computing, business operations and strategic initiatives - it is a strategic point of contact for assigned division(s). As part of the scientific community Business Relationship Management team within RITSC, the position works to understand and translate real business needs into realized IT outcomes.

Responsibilities

    Partner with and be a trusted advisor and IT liaison for the research division(s).
  • Work with research stakeholders and IT partners to co-develop goals & initiatives, maintain, and update lab/program-wide and team-specific IT strategies along with an organized portfolio and program view of the systems/software/IT requirements for each lab/program/team.
  • Deliver proactive change management between IT and the division to effectively communicate needs of division faculty and scientific programs before updates are made to processes, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Exercise judgement to prioritize support, balancing fast response vs. normal requests, after hours support for the assigned division(s) along the way educating research users on the best and most efficient way to access IT services.
  • Participate in regular meetings with division AVP's and IT leadership to sync/present on new offerings and discuss barriers/concerns.
  • Provide summary of project and program status reports of service quality and opportunities for improvement to develop division-specific metrics and trends.
  • Subject matter expert for assigned division (someone who knows or has the ability to learn the Principal Investigators and labs, consistent IT outreach and remediation/support) and ability to escalate decisions to research division leadership and IT leadership.
  • Work with leaders to gather, prioritize, and translate Division IT requirements and assist in advocating these requirements within IT.
  • In conjunction with the Service Desk, IT Business Operations, and research division administration assist with the development and maintenance of documentation of all hardware, systems, and software licensing (including tracking of privileges provided to any external individuals or affiliates).
  • Facilitate and collaborate with all IT functions and teams to ensure delivery of a comprehensive set of services that meet division needs, advises IT on related barriers, and impacts within the division. Acts as an advocate to raise awareness of these needs within IT.
  • Actively identify gaps and service inefficiencies, propose, and implement changes necessary to capture opportunity and/or address risks.
  • Actively identify, and help resolve, potential information security gaps and vulnerabilities or activities that may violate information security policy or best practices.
  • Partners with legal, HR, and Finance for IT issues that arise.
  • Represent the division on IT projects and assist with annual IT budget planning.
  • Collaborate within RITSC and advocate as a team member for all RITSC initiatives.
  • Mentor and train junior members of the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of IT leadership and/or business experience in various technical roles in IT or scientific research.
  • Broad basic knowledge of IT such as operations, systems administration and engineering, networking, security best practices, troubleshooting hardware and software challenges.
  • Strong critical thinking and demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Strong collaboration, consulting, multi-tasking, and organization skills.
  • Strong soft skills, i.e. effective communication, active listening, conflict resolution, collaborative problem-solving, adaptability, teamwork, leadership, emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to advise and influence without authority.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours based on internal customer schedules.
  • Familiarity with project management methods and the project management lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with clinical support and/or clinical research a plus.
  • Enthusiasm to develop expertise in science/research industry best practices specific to division needs.
  • Willingness to learn the technical aspects of IT service delivery and project management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in an academic or research environment strongly preferred, with understanding of sponsored research, research software and data needs.
  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated competencies to work creatively in a fast-paced environment and taking initiative and ownership of projects.

  • Must exhibit excellent dependability and flexibility in dealing with changing priorities.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $112,923 to $178,464, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
