Finance Overview:

The International Finance Office manages TechnoServe's accounting and reporting function for global operations. The function lies within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer along with, Planning and Budgeting, and Internal Audit. The International Finance staff coordinate and communicate internally and externally in support of the TechnoServe global network.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Global Financial Controller (Controller) will oversee the accounting operations for the home office including accounts payable, treasury, revenue and general ledger functions. The position will play a key role in ensuring global books are closed accurately and in a timely manner in compliance with the US generally accepted accounting standards and ensure audit readiness for all global offices.

While managing an Accounting Team, including a Revenue Manager, General Ledger Accountant and Payroll and Compliance Manager, the Global Financial Controller is responsible for assisting in the development and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures updating and maintaining relevant accounting systems, forms and documentation and providing training to staff on internal control procedures and accounting tools.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

General Ledger



  • Uphold a culture of compliance by ensuring all financial practices align with US GAAP and TNS's financial policies
  • Assist the CFO in preparation of audit and board committee materials
  • Serve as a key finance partner to department heads and project managers
  • Review and analyze global financial data for accuracy timely identification, and corrections of errors of transactions posted in general ledger of all companies
  • Effectively communicating critical financial matters to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Produce consistent and accurate consolidated supporting schedules and reconciliations for general ledger accounts
  • Review the monthly reconciliation process for all intercompany accounts by working closely with field offices
  • Review monthly reconciliation and posting of fixed assets, depreciation, amortization and sub-award transactions
  • Supervise the General Ledger Accountant to ensure all corporate schedules are reconciled and audit -ready
  • Work closely with Regional Controllers and ensure timely and accurate global month and year-end close
  • Support donor, statutory and organizational audit process by preparing schedules and financial reports
  • Ensure clean and timely completion of global, statutory and donor audits
  • Other ad hoc and special projects as required.


Accounts Receivable and Revenue



  • Responsible for oversight of revenue and accounts receivable to ensure accurate, timely coding and processing of global revenue transactions in compliance to US GAAP
  • Supervise the Revenue Manager to ensure all global revenue and receivables are reconciled and up-to-date for the monthly close all global intercompany revenue and closing entries are posted and all accounts receivables are collected on time
  • Provide necessary training and support to the revenue and treasury staff to be able to support the field controllers.


Accounts Payable and Treasury



  • Oversee the HQ accounts payable function and ensure accurate, timely coding and processing of invoices, expenses, and disbursements
  • Oversee the administration of the corporate credit card program and compliance to corporate credit card policies and procedures
  • Ensure all field office cash requests are reviewed and processed in a timely manner
  • Ensure timely reconciliation and posting of inter-bank funds transfer between USD and Foreign currency accounts
  • Provide effective oversight of cash management functions and assist in mitigating currency risks


Payroll and Compliance



  • Supervise the Payroll and Compliance Manager in ensuring accurate and timely processing of all US, Expat and Third-country national staff from HQ
  • Ensure that the Payroll and Compliance Manager maintains up to date payroll state tax registrations and filings and that country registration files have been updated annually
  • Ensure timely statutory filing of all payroll, vendor and organizational tax returns and reconciliation of payroll related liabilities and benefits
  • Manage financial risks across the organization by developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations


Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of 12 years of experience in financial and grants management in an international work setting (or Master's Degree plus 8years experience).
  • Experience with an ERP System, preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Serenic Navigator)
  • Big Query SQL experience
  • Experience working in an international NGO and exposure to global operations
  • Experience dealing with USG donors and supporting OMB audits.
  • Experience supervising a team of accounting professionals


Preferred Qualifications:



  • CPA or actively working towards a CMA, CPA certifications.
  • Experience working for an international NGO, operating in Africa and Latin and Central America countries.
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP


Required Languages: English required with an added advantage to speak, read and write in Spanish, Portuguese or French.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Excellent knowledge and working experience with G-Suite applications.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of fund based accounting and experience with complex internal non-profit organization
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills


Supervisory Responsibilities This position directly supervises 3 accounting staff
