FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM OPERATOR - Niagara ARB - Niagara Falls, NY A Fuels Distribution Systems Operator receives, stores, transfers, and issues fuel through pipelines or by fuel tanker truck at main line or terminal stations, receives fuel by tanker, connects lines, grounding wires, and loading and offloading arms or hoses to pipelines; and visually inspects samples of fuel, and checks gravity and flashpoint. This operator gauges tanks for water, temperature, and fuel levels, checks pumping systems for correct operating pressure or unusual noises, performs preventive maintenance and repairs on terminal systems, performs general housekeeping and grounds maintenance for terminal, pipeline and dock areas. Is responsible for inspecting, operating, and maintaining a complete fuels distribution system(s) to include fuel distribution vehicles that receive, store, transfer and issue both aviation and ground fuels. Duties include inspecting systems for leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and inoperative components such as distribution lines, storage tanks, oil/water separator, pumps, automatic/manual valves, meters, and system control rooms. Performs operator maintenance to include checking components for operation, pressures, and external leakage under pressure, removing/cleaning/inspecting receipt and dispensing strainers, draining water from tanks, filter separator vessels, fuel distribution vehicles and dike/containment areas. Performs any other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee must be able to stand, walk and sit for a prolonged period of time; use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk and hear. Duties require standing, climbing, working in strained positions, and lifting heavy objects weighing 50-75 pounds. Items 75 pounds will be lifted with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices. Must meet physical requirements, including vision, hearing, and depth perception. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations. Works in close proximity to aircraft with highly combustible fuels/vapors and high intensity sound. The work involves common risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typically followed in various work areas such as shop areas, flight lines, and workstations/indoor offices. Required to wear personal protective items in accordance with Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH) standards. Will be required to work weekends and holidays. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class A or B with X-Tank), HAZMAT Endorsement, TSA background check and DOT physical. Specialty Qualifications: Basic computer skills This position requires interface with government representatives and the individual shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language Education: Completion of high school or general education development equivalency is mandatory. Experience: Fuel operators must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a USAF Fuels specialty or civilian equivalency in receipt, storage and issue of petroleum products; liquid propellants, gases and oxidizers; and the operation aviation and ground fuels storage and dispensing systems; mobile and fixed fuel systems used in the servicing of military or civilian aircraft. Fuels Accounting and laboratory Special Experience Identifier (Fuels Quality Control), and Cryotainer Maintenance is a plus but not required A background check and drug screen will be conducted for this position.
