Paint Assistant - 1st Shift

Hours are M-F; 6:30a-3p and some OT on Saturdays.

Position Summary:

As a part of the Paint Department, this role will provide vital support in preparing and finishing transit buses to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. The Paint Assistant will work closely with experienced painters to develop the necessary skills in surface preparation, paint application, and quality control. This is a union role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare bus shells and components for painting, ensuring surfaces are clean, dry, and free of debris.
  • Translate paint specifications and assist in mixing paint and primers as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain various tools and equipment, including sanders and buffers, to prepare surfaces.
  • Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assist in masking and protecting areas of the buses from overspray during the painting process.
  • Learn and apply painting techniques to perform touch-ups and finish work under guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with the painting team to ensure high-quality standards are consistently met.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment to promote safety and efficiency.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or painting environment is essential.
  • Consistent work history with no job jumping.
  • MUST be able to tolerate wearing a respirator mask and PPE's.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new painting skills and techniques.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform complex tasks.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina to perform duties that may require lifting, standing, and repetitive motions for an extended duration.
  • Commitment to adhere to safety practices and procedures consistently.
