Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to work within the Wadsworth Center's Division of Environmental Health Sciences. One of the Division's goals is to assess human exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g., heavy metals, PFAS, pesticides, PAHs) that are present in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. The Assistant Research Scientist will be part of a clinical testing program that supports large-scale biomonitoring studies. the incumbent will provide assistance and support to senior scientists by running novel methodologies and generating and processing data to expand our public health biomonitoring capabilities. The incumbent will assist with the operation of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and triple quadrupole-ICP-MS (ICP-MS/MS) methodologies for human blood, serum, and urine. The incumbent will assist in providing high quality ICP-MS/MS validation data which supports the development of new methods. The incumbent will support the quality assurance aspects of the new clinical methods and assist to verify the production of high-quality data which ultimately supports the establishment of reference ranges for heavy metals (and trace elements) in NY State and other domestic and foreign populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience running analytical instrumentation. Work experience in a related field. Demonstrated, strong organizational and communications skills.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Travel, up to 10% of the time will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.

The employee in this position will be required to work with select agents.
