The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable
operation of the TRUMPF organization's IT infrastructure. This includes managing servers,
networks, cloud environments, and enterprise applications to ensure high availability,
performance, and security. The role plays a key part in both proactive system management and
responsive issue resolution. The Systems Administrator works closely with IT leadership,
service desk teams, and other technical staff to implement best practices, manage system
updates and patches, troubleshoot problems, and support business continuity. This role may
also support IT projects, disaster recovery planning, and infrastructure upgrades.

Principles & Responsibilities

  • Manage Windows and Linux servers in on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Perform updates, patch management, and security hardening for compliance.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot proactively.
  • Administer virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Deploy and manage cloud servers in Azure and other platforms.
  • Optimize server resources and performance.
  • Manage enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS, etc.).
  • Ensure effective backup and disaster recovery using tools like Veeam.
  • Enforce security policies and collaborate with IT security teams for compliance.
  • Investigate and remediate security incidents.
  • Respond to system-related incidents and service requests.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues.
  • Follow ITIL-aligned change management processes.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policies, and user access.
  • Maintain role-based access controls for applications.
  • Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to streamline tasks.
  • Maintain system documentation and contribute to the IT knowledge base.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior IT staff.

Experience

  • Operating Systems: Proven experience managing and maintaining both Windows Server (e.g., 2016/2019/2022) and Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Virtualization: Strong proficiency with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere required; Hyper-V desirable)."Familiarity with backup solutions (Veeam)
  • Networking: Solid understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, Load Balancing). Experience with ITIL service management processes.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a Systems Administrator in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with providers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Education

  • Bachelor's / Associates degree in Information Tech, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications (preferred but not required):
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
    • VMware VCP-DCV
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • ITIL Foundation
