SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The position will support the Demand Forecasting team in reviewing, analyzing, and synthesizing demand data and models used to forecast Amtrak ridership and ticket revenue. This will require the candidate to apply theoretical concepts to robust data sources and create meaningful insight that can be shared with senior leadership.

Duties include supporting the maintenance and application of travel demand forecasting models and tools along with business analytics pertaining to demand, addressing Amtrak ridership, ticket revenue, passenger miles, service levels, and high-level pricing changes as well as competing modes of travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Prepares ridership and ticket revenue projections by train / route and market demand information to guide operating decisions and capital investments, utilizing Amtrak's econometric forecasting analytics / models
* Data assembly and presentation, such as writing customized scripts with Python/R, SQL, VB or other languages to summarize large datasets
* Travel survey design and analysis
* Report writing and presentation of findings
* Collaborate closely with team members and other Amtrak groups

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience OR Master's degree in engineering, computer science, data science, economics, statistics or a related field
* Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
* Transportation planning experience, including a solid foundation in travel demand analysis and forecasting principles
* Experience in the design, testing and reporting of key statistics associated with econometric models and/or customer segmentation algorithms
* Programming skills/experience with Python/R, SQL, VB, and/or other languages
* Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Comfort with large amounts of complex data from multiple sources coupled with the ability to see linkages and relationships within and between sources.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* 3+ years of relevant experience preferred; some prior relevant experience required preparing travel demand forecasts.

* Experience with visualization tools such as Business Objects, Tableau or similar
* Experience working with network forecasting models (such as TransCAD, Cube/Voyager, and/or other similar packages) and GIS systems (such as ArcView).
* Experience with survey sampling, data analytics modeling, and multivariate analytical techniques such as conjoint analysis, regression analysis, discriminant analysis, segmentation, and cluster analysis.
* Experience with one or more statistical programming languages (e.g., SAS, Stata, SPSS, R).
* Ability to describe challenges and solutions in both technical and business terms.
* Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at all organizational levels

* Conducts in person and/or telephone dialogues as appropriate in order to manage and conduct the flow of work.
Working Conditions:
* Additional working hours and travel will be required periodically.
* Works in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment with frequently changing priorities.
* Frequently handles multiple projects concurrently.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $78,600-$101,844, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
