HJF is seeking a BiostatisticianV - Data Analysis Team Lead to support the Data Coordinating and Analysis Center (DCAC) for the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) and the Viral Diseases Program (VDP) of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), whose Home Office is located at 6720A Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, Maryland.

DCAC is an in-house centralized resource for clinical data management, biostatistical analysis, reporting, and training in support of clinical trials and scientific research. The Senior Biostatistician and Data Analysis Team Lead will provide team managerial oversight and statistical support for new and ongoing HIV and other emerging infectious disease studies conducted by MHRP, VDP, and other WRAIR programs, involving clinical observational research, laboratory research, clinical trials, and other research studies.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.



  • Works with the Project PI and other biostatisticians to achieve the goals of the projects. Provides guidance in appropriate statistical methods as well as input into future design and methodology of studies.
  • Provides relevant statistical and project status updates to research staff. Recommends and implements changes as needed.
  • Takes a leadership role in organizing and providing managerial oversight for the data analysis team, comprised of research analysts, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians.
  • Leads the preparation of study documentation, such as study protocols, reports, scientific abstracts, peer reviewed manuscripts, grant proposals, and responses to regulatory agencies, institutional review boards, and other agencies as needed.
  • Conducts statistical analyses of clinical trial and cohort data, including laboratory measures, using appropriate statistical software (SAS, STATA, and/or R), and oversees the implementation of power calculations to estimate sample size or minimum effect sizes. Provides summaries, interpretations, and presentation of statistical results in written, tabular, and visual formats as needed to support reporting goals.
  • Develops SOPs on analytical processes collaboratively with department leadership.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; Conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.


Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology or related field with a minimum of 10 years experience required, or a Doctoral Degree with a minimum of 6-8 years experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Experience in the design of clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of medical science and research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to make effective presentations and publish.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced with advanced statistical concepts such as machine learning or Bayesian data analysis.


Work Environment



  • Takes place in an office environment.


Compensation



  • The annual salary range for this position is $120,600-$134,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
