Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Process Engineer at the Tilden Mine in Ishpeming, MI. This role is essential in driving process improvements, ensuring product quality, and optimizing operational efficiency in a complex, heavy industrial mining environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with experience in/knowledge of mineral processing and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Summary of Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of iron ore processing systems. Monitor and optimize processes such as crushing, grinding, chemical separation, and pelletizing. Develop and monitor plant KPIs to identify areas for improvement in recovery, throughput, and cost efficiency. Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mass/heat balances. Ensure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards. Participate in Management of Change (MOC) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities. Lead evaluations of new technologies, automation and reagents to enhance performance and reduce costs. Benchmark performance and establish best practices for processing conditions and equipment usage. Work closely with operations, maintenance, mining, and environmental teams to optimize the operation. Interface with external vendors and contractors to maintain and improve plant equipment and technology. Provide technical reports and recommendations to support operational decision-making. Analyze trends and performance data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Physically able to work in a mining environment (lifting, heights, climate exposure). Willingness to work shift schedules and respond to operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in mineral or industrial processing facility. Experience in unionized workplace. Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems (Work Order, Standard Jobs, APL's, Equipment Register and Scheduling modules). Familiarity with MSHA standards and environmental compliance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels.
