Sports and General Assignment Reporter

The Lake Geneva Regional News, a division of Lee Enterprises, is looking to hire an enthusiastic full-time sports/general assignment reporter. While the main focus is high school sports, this position also will cover general assignment news as needed. The position requires some night and weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Regularly produce content to accurately inform and engage area audiences
• Pitch unique feature and story ideas on a regular basis
• Develop reliable sources within area programs
• Take photos and video at sporting events
• Collaborate with editors to ensure all elements of stories are provided
• Help post breaking news and press releases in a timely fashion
• Work well in a team environment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements and skills:

• Strong knowledge of AP Style
• Excellent grammar and spelling skills
• Strong news sense
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Understanding of SEO and audience engagement tactics
• Ability to work on a deadline and turn stories quickly
• A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent experience
• A valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation is required

The Lake Geneva Regional News is a weekly newspaper in Walworth County in southeast Wisconsin. Lake Geneva is picturesque resort city nestled along the eastern shore of Geneva Lake. LGRN has won several statewide awards in recent years and has a strong digital culture - focusing on local content of what's of interest to our readership.
