Purpose:

The Senior Lead Server Engineer will provide technical leadership and oversight on data center infrastructure tasks and modernization initiatives. This role will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing enterprise-level server systems while ensuring secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure to meet the mission requirements for our client.


The Senior Lead Server Engineer will act as a technical expert across multiple assignments, supporting the full systems engineering life cycle, from requirements development to integration, implementation, and maintenance. This position requires deep expertise in data center technologies, cloud readiness, contingency operations, and enterprise modernization strategies. In addition to providing advanced technical guidance, the Senior Lead Server Engineer will supervise staff, direct project execution, and drive innovation in data center and server environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on major data center tasks and infrastructure assignments, ensuring alignment with program and project objectives.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of technology initiatives, recommending major changes to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Serve as a technical expert across multiple project assignments, providing advanced engineering support and oversight.
  • Perform systems engineering throughout the system life cycle to support data center modernization initiatives.
  • Develop methodologies and standards for system development, integration, and implementation, consistent with enterprise frameworks such as ELCM.
  • Facilitate the secure collection, storage, and management of electronic data, ensuring integrity and appropriate access.
  • Introduce and evaluate new technologies to support mission-critical operations, preparing for cloud adoption (IaaS, SaaS, and hybrid solutions).
  • Provide expert-level third-tier support for infrastructure services, ensuring reliable delivery of IT services across the enterprise.
  • Monitor servers, services, and applications to ensure recovery and continuity in the event of catastrophic failure; support COOP and Disaster Recovery Programs.
  • Monitor data center environments, track hardware assets, and manage the Capital Equipment Replacement Program (CERP) to optimize equipment lifecycle management.
  • Develop system architectures that align with Enterprise Architecture goals and ensure solutions support strategic objectives and business needs.
  • Apply best practices in design, development, integration, and process improvement to reengineer and optimize IT workflows.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement advanced systems and technologies to introduce efficiencies, strengthen resiliency, and ensure effective resource utilization.
  • Supervise server engineering personnel, providing leadership, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience as an individual contributor in server or data center engineering.
  • Base-level certification such as CompTIA A+, Security+, or Network+.
  • Core certification in server technologies such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Professional (MCSP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware Professional, VMware Advanced Professional, or VMware Specialist.
