Deputy Editor, Advanced Science - Energy Research

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Deputy Editor with a Ph.D. in the physical sciences, with a strong background in energy research, to join our in-house editorial team, particularly for our growing Open Access flagship journal Advanced Science. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic development and editorial direction of our leading Advanced family of journals. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and impact of published content, while working closely with authors, reviewers, and fellow editors.

How you will make an impact:

  • Identify emerging research trends and commission high-impact content.
  • Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board to shape journal strategy and scope.
  • Represent our journals at scientific conferences and within the research community.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote sound science, transparency, and ethical publishing practices.
  • Manage the peer review process for submitted manuscripts, ensuring timely and rigorous evaluation.
  • Make editorial decisions and provide constructive feedback to authors.

We are looking for people who have/are:

  • Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Energy research background is a strict requirement.
  • Strong publication record and deep understanding of the physical sciences research landscape.
  • Prior editorial experience (e.g., as a reviewer, guest editor, or editorial board member) and understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills. Passion for scientific publishing and commitment to editorial excellence.

It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
