POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Community Outreach and Social Media Manager

Status: Full Time, hourly non exempt

Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager

Position Summary:This position is responsible for
the marketing and outreach efforts of Independence First through
content creation, graphic design, website maintenance, and social
media engagement. Responsibilities include developing flyers and
digital materials, updating and maintaining the agency's website and
social platforms, assisting with the creation of newsletters and
campaigns, producing and editing photo and video content, and leading
community outreach activities. The position promotes the agency's
services and events to increase community awareness and engagement.

Position Expected Hours of Work:This is a full-time
position, typically requiring 40 hours per week. The position is based
at the Independence First main office and may involve occasional
travel within the agency's service area.



Essential Functions of the Position:

Maintain and regularly update the Independence First website and
social media platforms with engaging, accurate, accessible, and
mission-aligned content in accordance with the marketing strategy.
Monitor and respond to public comments, private messages and agency
mentions on social media platforms to foster positive community engagement.

B. Support marketing and communications efforts for agency events and
campaigns, including tasks such as sponsor recognition, material
preparation, and distribution of promotional content.

C. Assist in the production of publications, such as the quarterly
newsletter, annual report, and e-newsletters. This includes writing,
editing, gathering photos, and coordinating with internal staff.

D. Contribute to digital marketing efforts, including tracking
digital engagement, applying basic SEO principles, and maintaining a
consistent brand voice across platforms including Facebook, X
(formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Yelp, and Google.

E. Capture and share agency stories and events by creating written
content, taking photos or videos, and posting to digital platforms in
coordination with the Marketing and Communications Manager.

F. Support the agency blog by coordinating content, posting approved
materials, and maintaining a calendar of timely, relevant topics.

G. Update online event listings and ensure accurate, timely
information is published on agency platforms.

H. Plan and conduct community outreach initiatives to promote
Independence First's programs and services, including independent
living services, peer support, assistive technology, transition,
advocacy, and personal care assistance. Represent the agency at
outreach events, community fairs, and public engagements.

I. Responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with
local organizations, service providers, and community leaders to
enhance awareness and access to Independence First's services.
Collaborate with staff across departments to promote workshops,
trainings, and other program-related outreach efforts.

J. Coordinate and staff outreach booths and presentations on behalf
of the agency's Home Healthcare and Independent Living programs.
Ensure accurate program information is shared with the public and
referral partners to increase awareness and service utilization.
Collect data for outreach tracking and record keeping.

K. Proactively advocates for the rights and involvement of
individuals with disabilities; provide advocacy and support for the
Independent Living Philosophy. As a member of the agency's marketing
team, will attend fundraising and other special events as requested,
take photos or document activities. Provide assistance with any other
duties of Independence First and the Marketing Department as a whole.

Experience and Skills:

Professional Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a
related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be
considered.
B. Bilingual or multilingual abilities in Spanish,
Russian, or Hmong preferred.
C. Minimum of two years of
experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or
community outreach, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
D.
Reliable transportation or ability to travel within the four-county
Metro-Milwaukee area; occasional in-state or national travel may be
required.
E. Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal
communication skills required.
F. Proficiency with office
software, including word processing, databases, and
spreadsheets.
G. Must have a firm belief in consumer control,
the Independent Living Philosophy, and our agency's Vision
Statement.
H. Demonstrated experience managing social media
platforms required.
I. Ability to work both independently and as
part of a team.
J. Basic internet research skills
required.
K. Experience with photography and videography
required; familiarity with editing tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative
Suite, or similar programs is a plus.
L. Experience or
familiarity with Home Healthcare outreach considered a plus.
M.
Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.
