Job Summary

Management of the assigned fusion services support team (fusion technicians) in the delivery of rental equipment and technical fusion services. Oversee the in-shop scheduling and maintenance of assigned fusion equipment. Direct and problem solve equipment and tech service issues for direct reports and staff. Select, train, develop, and oversee the fusion technician team. Facilitate fusion training for both internal candidates and external contractors. Maintain training records and provide opportunities for re-qualification as needed. Develop and implement best practices for machinery maintenance and repair. Supervise the fusion equipment mechanic. Work with fusion equipment and tech services managers from other HDPE facilities to develop and implement best-practice strategies.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day functions, prioritizing activities, including renting and maintaining equipment and scheduling fusion technicians.
  • Coordinate in-house Core & Main and contractor fusion training activities.
  • Review Datalogger reports and address pertinent issues, including additional training or guidance as needed. Provide reports to customers as needed through McElroy Vault.
  • Work alongside technicians in the field as needed to meet tech services demand.
  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of assigned fusion equipment assets.
  • Collect data and submit reports as needed.
  • Coordinate with regional sales manager on equipment strategy, budgets and goals.
  • Determine market opportunities for new products and services.
  • Ensure maintenance and technical service activities are conducted within expense budgets.
  • Identify additional equipment and service capabilities to increase productivity.
  • Communicate to branch, district, and regional leadership regarding rental and service activities.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Generally, 7+ years of experience in fusion services or a related field.
  • Knowledge of principles of fusion, including butt, socket, sidewall, electrofusion, and extrusion welding processes for fusion services.
  • Knowledge of fusion and fabrication machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of training techniques and ability to lead training classes.

Environmental Job Requirements

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. May occasionally include field fusion tech work.
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 20% of the time.
  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift material or equipment (typically less than 50 pounds).
